Undercutting prices to the extreme

I've noticed that people are undercutting on the AH to a point that markets have no stability at all. I figured it would stabilize as time continues, but it's still insane. I haven't really ventured out from my own server - is anyone else experiencing this in their server economies?

I'm not talking about undercutting by a couple silver or copper, I'm talking about selling for half the price of others. It's essentially throwing potential money away for the person undercutting, and makes the market volatile. Do people not really see that they are losing money this way?

Why don't you capitalize on this and buy the items for half price and put them back up for higher? His money in your pocket.

My issue is with players who post items on the AH for vendor price + 5s
The deposit costs that much, cmon bro.

I've seen people do that to blue boe's when they do not manage to sell them.

i just can speak for myself but i undercut by a lot - not many items because i lack the supply but thats just the nature of todays server demographic i guess.

there are many people who can't invest the time they were able to in the past. if you have about 1-2 hours a day to play and are able to visit the auction house once every 3 days then you start valuing items differently:

i could undercut the item by 10 silver to just be undercut in less then 5 minutes because there are powerauctioneers that are able to invest more time in selling items. i dont have the time and dont whant to repost items for 3 weeks until i sell it, i rather undercut by a huge amount, make profit nevertheless and be able to use the gold for my limited time i have leveling. but hey im fine with others instantly buying my items and repost them to make more profit, if they have the time to play the auction house.

so the bottom line: i rather make half the items worth in gold in a week than no gold at all in 3 weeks

I've seen silk cloth for less than vendor price.. Hint: you can buy those, craft sillk/heavy silk bandages and vendor them for free first aid skill (and small profit), 1 silk bandage is 2s vendor price, heavy silk is 4 silver vendor price.

Did some nice gold on more vauable items with price fluctuation... mainly fused wiring and golden pearls

I don't understand the reasoning for this either. I was making a massive profit by DEing under priced greens into enchanting mats and selling those, but thats died a death now because the enchanting mat market has fallen through the floor on my server. I was able to buy blues for 35-40% of their DE value and then make bare Gs, but now I'm back to flipping items again, which is much more volatile.

I am however aware that the game is still very young, and it will take time for the econ to stabilise.

I've got a few other hustles that I'm keeping hold of for now whilst I focus on leveling.

This ^ a bit of patience here will pay dividends. Exploit the illogical behaviour to your advantage.

This is happening on my server too. It will stablize, but it is still too close to launch for it to have stabalized yet. Remember most people are still working on their first 60, and only care about liquidating their bags to get money for mount and skills.

A LOT of people will post for whatever Auctioneer tells them, and since prices flucuate soooo much, if they dont rescan before posting, prices can be all over the place.

This is probably true. Give it another 2-3 months and I bet prices will be more or less stable. It's just too chaotic at the moment, people are willing to dump things for ridiculously low prices.

If you were a more patient man than I, I would suggest holding onto anything of remote value, as I bet the prices will go up relatively soon.

I tried selling a devilasaur leggings pattern for a whole week at 10g less than the cheapest. It never sold so I just halved the price and it sold. I lost some money but I was not going to wait another week

Because it's like trying to swim up a waterfall. There will always be idiots who don't know the actual value of these items, and they'll just undercut you by ridiculous amounts. At some point you can't keep buying shit even if it's cheap.

Yeah you need to have some capital to invest in the cheaper items, especially if you are undercut after buying it out and putting it up cheaper.

That's why you need to study the AH, if there are items that you can see comes in a lot such as cloth, you know that maybe it's not good to invest
in them because even if you buy all of the stacks from someone who made a huge undercut, 1hr later there are 20 more stacks, not giving you a chance to resell the stacks you just bought.

You need to find the perfect items that are needed by people, with a decent amount on the AH, but is not flooding the AH or easily obtainable. You can even buy rare items on their "normal" price, and resell for more as long as you control the item, meaning as soon as someone puts one up, you have to buy it and resell even if it wont give you as much profit as you hoped for. Create a monopoly on an item that is needed by many and you will make money.

Again, this requires capital and investment.

EDIT: sorry for my grammar

Patience is a very decent substitution for capital. Instead of buying all undervalued mats of a kind, you only buy the cheapest entries of multiple items. Then you wait for prices to climb. Sometimes this can happen within the next hour, sometimes it takes a week. Using this method I often resell herbs at 200+% selling price. I dont make as much as people moving whole markets, but its far more save: I make some very nice profits while learning about the market.
