(Research Question) Playing with the opposite gender

Few years ago I wouldn't care about it too much and generally I opened characters based on how it "felt right" to me. For example I'd pair Elf ranger as female character. But after some time that I played with guildmates I realized how many dudes open female characters with the rationale of "I want a character that I enjoy looking at", nice booty/chest etc. There's nothing wrong with that, just I kind of found that weird, and so ever since I made it my life mission to open only male characters just because.

As a guy, most girls (not all girls) lack the competitiveness and skills that a video game requires, for many they only play to keep up with the current trend. Many females are getting better gears, stronger abilities, and ranks higher than what they suppose to have (boosted) due to the help of their Boyfriend, friends or even random simp players... So when the female who was “boosted” played with random players on high rank/level they may have the gears, abilities, and rank to play but there is a shortfall in their skill level and game knowledge that makes the game even harder because the other players have to make up for the game knowledge and skill deficit that the other "girl player" is lacking which makes the game overall hard and demoting players with such high level skill to a much lower rank...

PS: the opposite may also be true for guys in a female’s perspective (vice versa)

From my experience, It doesn’t affect my mentality and gameplay at all unless they are somebody I like then I will most likely try my hardest and show off but I feel like that is just how guys are in general.

I think gaming performance stems from a person’s level of competitiveness. Generally, men are more competitive than women but there are other factors that could influence gameplay. A gamer’s passion also plays a role. The more passionate you are about a game and the more eager you are in winning, the more competitive you become despite the gender of your opponent. Same goes for the other end; lack of passion and enthusiasm could decrease one’s gaming performance. So I think one’s passion and interest play more of a major role in gaming than gender. Personally, the sex of my opponent does not influence how I play the game.

For me, knowing that the person you were playing is opposite gender what I think some people (in my opinion) will change how they communicate with the player and start to play nice. However some other people tend to not care at all.

Most females I have met in videogames only caused drama (this doesn't just apply to WoW, also games like Diablo 2 and DotA). Either because they were the GM's or some officer's GF and wanted special treatment or because they were the only girl in the team and wanted special treatment. Sadly, because almost all girls I've met through gaming were like that I've grown suspicious of "gamer girls". I really prefer to play with men.

In my opinion, playing with the opposite gender doesn't really affect gameplay at all. It all comes down to the skills of the player regardless of gender. Usually, I find that most guys tend to be good at video games because that's what they do most of the time whereas girls can also be good at video games if they spend the same amount of time guys spend playing video games. The more someone puts in time into playing the more they get better.

According to my experience, most females lack the knowledge for most games that are competitive such as League of Legends or Dota. An example would be a pro team of females in League of Legends named Vaevictis Esports has lost all of their games without winning a single game during LCL and has been awarded as the fastest team that has been kicked out of the roster which defines that men are just a different species when it comes to competitive games. Most of the time I wonder how or why some gamer girls are in a highly competitive rank that lacks knowledge or mechanics. Maybe it's one of the rare gamer girls that have the ability to compete with other highly skilled players or most likely a boosted bonobo that have been carried by their boyfriends or male friends that are just god at the game, but we'll never know because the world is full of mysteries. Stardew Valley, Minecraft, or any sort of game that are less competitive has their purpose and that purpose is to keep the gamer girls away from the game that is most likely for men. By all means, gamer girls could play any games that are competitive as a result of ruining other players' experience unless some people are playing for fun and does not care to lose which is me because of a really bad experience towards playing with a couple protecting each other delusional's back, knowing the fact that the girlfriend is pure crystal clear water boosted so she might as well play Roblox maybe it will ease the difficulty.

I just realized I misunderstood the question, but I guess anyway I won't have much of an input since I usually didn't get to play with women that much anyway. So excuse me for missing the point on the first time.

On the one hand, I think it has nothing to do with it,
and most people don't pay attention to it. 
There is also the flip side that the women who play put a lot of effort
to show the opposite sex that they are just as good,
and the guys who try harder to attract women.

when I've played with girls in a group, a lot of the male players act different or weird when there's a girl in the chat. Kind of dumb it shouldn't make a difference what gender someone is, we all like games right? I could say more about why some gamer guys might act that way haha

Where it's an option I always play female characters. Generally it's more fun for who I'm looking at and I guess maybe from an rp standpoint it takes me out of my element more? But I don't think there's much difference in interaction these days. Earlier internet games it was definitely worse.

This has got to be one of the most sexist comments I’ve seen in a very long time. Firstly, you’re generalizing a population of gamers off of the experience of one team that generally consists of 4-5 players at a time. Vaevictis Esports DID lose all 14 of their games and has since experienced a change in roster but this does not support any claim in your comment. Furthermore, there are PLENTY of other female-oriented teams that compete and are still in competitions on a regular basis.

What game is more likely for men? World of Warcraft certainly isn’t favouring one or the other since both genders play significant roles in the lore and we can create both female and male characters to play. Stardew Valley and Minecraft see both male and female players of all ages. I know plenty of female players that are better than me at various video games. Whether that’s Call of Duty, World of Warcraft, etc. Often times, they may end up carrying me through matches or Battlegrounds or sometimes raids if I’m undergeared.

Being carried or “boosted” can go both ways – girlfriends can help their boyfriends and vice-versa. (Leaving out same-gender situations for the sake of the argument here) This isn’t something that is gender-specific. This is one person having a means to help their spouse, significant other, etc.

In general I would say it doesn't seem to have a lot of impact on the gameplay, but it may have an impact on the way people behave. Being part of a guild with only male players may be a different experience than if it's a guild with mixed genders, as behaviors will likely change in the latter case.
