Dungeon Set 2 (or T 0.5) upgrades and how to obtain them in WoW Classic
by Teebling • 25th March 2019
This is a guide to obtaining the 'T0.5 set', 'Dungeon Set 2', or officially, 'High Level Armor' upgrades in WoW Classic. These tier set revamps were originally introduced in patch 1.10 as a means of providing non-raiders with a challenging end-game goal. The quest lines are actually pretty insane but very rewarding nonetheless

intro

For example, the end-game raider isn't going to be interested in T0.5 because the actual stats on T0.5 aren't much better than those of T0, and your pre-raiding BiS gear will not make use of the entire T0 set to begin with anyway. Most raiders will prefer to get as much pre-raid BiS as they can and then start on obtaining T1 pieces (or the entire set for those classes that benefit most from set bonuses).
Here's a listing of each T0.5 set in comparison with it's original T0 set for comparing stats gains (and losses).
So do bear in mind that this is more of a vanity or collectable venture and has little to do with efficient progression. Also, remember that T0.5 sets were introduced in patch 1.10 - Blizzard have not yet specified where the T0.5 tier sets will fall in their official content plan. As a result, we don't know if this will be available on release or at a later date in their schedule.
appearance
Now that's out of the way - still interested? Hell yeah! You can use our tier sets gallery tool to look at T0.5 renders on any race, class, and gender combination to see what your T0.5 upgrade could look like.
These sets look beautiful and will appeal to a huge number of players who choose not to dive into raiding content at all for WoW Classic. It's the perfect challenge for a small guild or group of friends who want to augment their T0 sets and follow a fun and lengthy quest chain.
Here's an example of the Warrior's T0 set 'Valor' next to its T0.5 upgraded version 'Heroism' on a female Orc. Note that it's not just a recolour - there are also subtle texture differences too.

basics
The following are the basic requirements and cautionary notes for the chain:

list
And here's a pre-questing shopping/collection list if you want to make for super efficient turn-ins. Most can be bought off other players or the AH. You don't need to get these before you begin - as you will be travelling through the areas in which they reside anyway.
questarc
The epic quest arc comprises of 28 steps in total and takes you through all of the high level world zones and dungeons in the game, rewarding you with upgrades for various armor slots along the way in the same order regardless of class or faction. The quest types vary in nature (gathering, boss kill, dungeon quest) etc. and therefore are best completed in groups also working towards a T0.5 upgrade.
The following subsections are not intended to be a summary of the events or storyline - wouldn't want to spoil it for you entirely after all! They are merely notes in one form or another that can help you along with each quest if you are having trouble with something or want to make preparations beforehand - shopping lists, locations, and other pertinent information.
q1
An Earnest Proposition
If images/tatticons/alliance.pngAlliance: Quest given by https://classic.wowhead.com/npc=16013 in Ironforge's High Seat.
Collect 15 https://classic.wowhead.com/item=21928/winterspring-blood-sample - good drop rate from https://classic.wowhead.com/npc=7433 and https://classic.wowhead.com/npc=7432 in the North of https://classic.wowhead.com/zone=618 . You'll also need to return /images/tatticons/gold.png20.
If images/tatticons/horde.pngHorde: Quest given by https://classic.wowhead.com/npc=16012/mokvar in Orgrimmar's Grommash Hold.
Collect 15 https://classic.wowhead.com/item=22381/silithus-venom-sample which drops fairly often from https://classic.wowhead.com/npc=11737 , https://classic.wowhead.com/npc=11739 and other Scorpids in https://classic.wowhead.com/zone=1377 . You'll also need to return /images/tatticons/gold.png20.
Bracers upgraded.
q2
A Supernatural Device
Take the images/tatticons/alliance.png https://classic.wowhead.com/item=21985 or
images/tatticons/horde.png https://classic.wowhead.com/item=22382 to https://classic.wowhead.com/npc=16014 in Gadgetzan, Tanaris.
q3
The Ectoplasmic Distiller
Bring https://classic.wowhead.com/npc=16014 the following:

q4
Hunting for Ectoplasm
NB: Whilst you're in Winterspring, if you haven't got https://classic.wowhead.com/item=21939 yet, pay a visit to https://classic.wowhead.com/npc=16015 near Darkwhisper Gorge as you'll need it for the next step. It costs /images/tatticons/gold.png40.
Locations of mobs that drop the ecto:
https://classic.wowhead.com/item=21937/scorched-ectoplasm : https://classic.wowhead.com/npc=12178 and https://classic.wowhead.com/npc=12179 in Silithus around 62,52.
https://classic.wowhead.com/item=21936/frozen-ectoplasm : https://classic.wowhead.com/npc=7523 and https://classic.wowhead.com/npc=7524 in Winterspring around 52,42.
https://classic.wowhead.com/item=21935/stable-ectoplasm : https://classic.wowhead.com/npc=8539 , https://classic.wowhead.com/npc=8542 , https://classic.wowhead.com/npc=8541 , https://classic.wowhead.com/npc=8538 or https://classic.wowhead.com/npc=8540 in E Plaguelands around 60,68 - 77,51 - or 71,35.
Strategy:
Pull a big group of mobs, isolate and kill non-ecto dropping mobs, then drop the https://classic.wowhead.com/item=21946 and use https://classic.wowhead.com/item=9061 to AoE down the pack.
Both your character and the mobs have to be inside the radius (13 yards) of the distiller to loot the goo, which has to be looted immediately or it disappears.
q5
A Portable Power Source
Kill https://classic.wowhead.com/npc=16043/magma-lord-bokk in Burning Steppes (around 35,57 west of the Pillar of Ash) and loot https://classic.wowhead.com/item=21938/magma-core .
q6
A Shifty Merchant
Give Mux the https://classic.wowhead.com/item=21939 .
q7
Return to Deliana/Mok'var
In IF/Org depending on faction.
q8
Just Compensation
Belt and Gloves upgraded.
q9
In Search of Anthion
Use https://classic.wowhead.com/item=22115 outside the entrance to Stratholme (meeting stone) in E Plaguelands to reveal his ghost. Talk to him to continue the quest chain.
q10
Dead Man's Plea
So this is one of the toughest challenges in the whole arc and is known as the 'Strat 45 dead run'. Basically your group has to engage (note, not kill) https://classic.wowhead.com/npc=10440 within 45 minutes of entering Stratholme.
You'll want to have, as I mentioned at the beginning, a very solid 5 man team with good communication. One mage as DPS can solo the trash inside a ziggurat speeding things up a fair bit. Paladins tank Strat very well with holy damage.
You won't have time to loot trash, bosses, or roll on greens. Just plough through it as fast as you can, moving from one mob to the next and only stopping if you healer is OOM. You don't have to pull every single trash pack if you don't need to.
To save time, enter through the side gate (well to the East of the main gate!) and have in your possession https://classic.wowhead.com/item=12382 already to be able to unlock the gates leading in.
/revision/latest?cb=20070618110918
/revision/latest?cb=20080226163437
You'll start off in the Gauntlet at entrance B (first map). Pull order suggested as per the second map. Clear out the three mini-bosses in the Ziggurats located at 10, 11 and 12 (first map). This will open the gate to Slaughter Square and allow you to take on Baron. Good luck with the timing and of course maybe the mount will drop
An interesting note is that completing the quest provides 1000 rep with Argent Dawn, and an additional 300 rep if the girl survives.
q11
Proof of Life
Ysida gives you a https://classic.wowhead.com/item=22137/ysidas-satchel containing elixirs and potions. She also provides you with https://classic.wowhead.com/item=22139/ysidas-locket which you take back to https://classic.wowhead.com/npc=16016/anthion-harmon outside Strat (remember to equip the revealer if he's not there).
q12
Anthion's Strange Request
Give https://classic.wowhead.com/npc=16016/anthion-harmon the following:
q13
Anthion's Old Friend
Take the https://classic.wowhead.com/item=21983/incomplete-banner-of-provocation to https://classic.wowhead.com/npc=16032/falrin-treeshaper in the Library at Dire Maul. The Library can be accessed from either the West or North wings. You'll need the https://classic.wowhead.com/item=18249 to be able to transit from North wing, through the Library, to the West wing, and visa versa. Otherwise you'll need a group to clear DM.
Click the image above to see pin for the Library location.
q14
Falrin's Vendetta
Remaining in DM and going to a fresh wing (W if you entered N or visa versa), or by farming outside of DM (at a very low drop rate though), collect 25 https://classic.wowhead.com/item=21982/ogre-warbeads#comments and bring them back to Falrin.
q15
The Instigator's Enchantment
Bring Falrin the following:
With any luck the https://classic.wowhead.com/item=22224/jeering-spectres-essence will have already dropped for you from the spirits in Dire Maul.
q16
The Challenge
Go to BRD: Ring of Law and use the https://classic.wowhead.com/item=21986/banner-of-provocation whilst being sentenced. This will spawn https://classic.wowhead.com/npc=16059/theldren who drops the quest item.
q17
Anthion's Parting Words
Head back to Anthion in the E Plaguelands and he will give you a class specific speech and then send you back to IF/Org for your rewards.
Legs, Boots and Shoulders upgraded.
q18
Bodley's Unfortunate Fate
Go to Blackrock Mountain and use the https://classic.wowhead.com/item=22115 on the balcony outside the URBS entrance to reveal Bodley.
q19
The Three Kings of Flame
The first two 'kings' are relatively easy. First of all go to BRD and kill https://classic.wowhead.com/npc=9017 for https://classic.wowhead.com/item=21987/incendicite-of-incendius . Then go to UBRS and kill https://classic.wowhead.com/npc=9816 for https://classic.wowhead.com/item=21988/ember-of-emberseer .
The third 'king', https://classic.wowhead.com/npc=15206/the-duke-of-cynders , who drops https://classic.wowhead.com/item=21989/cinder-of-cynders , is on the other hand a huge pain in the ass to summon. There are four options available to you.
1. Scan the AH for https://classic.wowhead.com/item=20531 and then gather the mats to create https://classic.wowhead.com/item=20432 to summon him
2. Or, turn in https://classic.wowhead.com/quest=8319/encrypted-twilight-texts repeatedly and hope that he mails you a https://classic.wowhead.com/item=20531 , create a https://classic.wowhead.com/item=20432 then summon him
3. Alternatively scan the AH for a ready-made (but likely to be rare and expensive) https://classic.wowhead.com/item=20432 to summon him
4. Go the low-success but cheap route by following these instructions to acquire all of the build-up materials yourself and then have a 20% chance to summon him at the very end.
Finally, you'll need to buy a https://classic.wowhead.com/item=22014/hallowed-brazier from an https://classic.wowhead.com/npc=16786/argent-quartermaster . The cost is /images/tatticons/gold.png120 if you are Honoured with the Argent Dawn. Reduces with Revered/Exalted of course.
q20
Components of Importance/The Left Piece of Lord Valthalak's Amulet
Basically you need to get your hands on https://classic.wowhead.com/item=21984 to complete this chapter of the epic arc.
To do that, four different quests exist (which all eventually end up with you returning the amulet) - but he'll only give you one of these four quests - it's chosen randomly. The four possible quests he chooses from are:
q21
Tyr's Hand
Go to Eastern Plaguelands and farm https://www.wowhead.com/npc=9448 until the https://classic.wowhead.com/item=22228/brilliant-sword-of-zealotry drops. Return to Bodley and he will send you to Stratholme (live side) where you can then summon and kill https://classic.wowhead.com/npc=16101/jarien / https://classic.wowhead.com/npc=16102/sothos who will drop the https://classic.wowhead.com/item=21984 .
q22
Purgation Isle
Farm https://classic.wowhead.com/npc=7071 , https://classic.wowhead.com/npc=7072 and https://classic.wowhead.com/npc=7075 on Purgation Isle (South West of the Hillsbrad Foothills at sea). Return to Bodley and he will send you to Scholomance, where you can then summon and kill https://classic.wowhead.com/npc=16118/kormok , who drops the https://classic.wowhead.com/item=21984 .
q23
Hive'Regal
Head to Hive'Regal in Silithus and farm the elite insects there for https://classic.wowhead.com/item=22226 . Return them to Bodley and you'll be sent to LBRS to summon https://classic.wowhead.com/npc=16080 in the room of War Master Voone who will drop the https://classic.wowhead.com/item=21984 .
q24
Starbreeze Village
Obtain a https://classic.wowhead.com/item=22227/starbreeze-village-relic from a https://classic.wowhead.com/npc=7428 or https://classic.wowhead.com/npc=7429 in the south of Winterspring (Gorge) and return it to Bradely. He'll then send you to DM: East where you can summon and kill https://classic.wowhead.com/npc=16097/isalien who drops the https://classic.wowhead.com/item=21984 .
q25
I See Alcaz Island In Your Future
Head to https://classic.wowhead.com/zone=15 and farm the elite Naga on Algaz Island (east of the coast) for 20 https://classic.wowhead.com/item=22094/bloodkelp . You'll find some in the baskets too. Try and swim from the mainland coast to the island from a directly West to East direction - this keeps you in shallow water and reduces the risk of dying of fatigue.
q27
More Components of Importance/The Right Piece of Lord Valthalak's Amulet
Again, you can be offered one of the four random quests as described above. Eventually you'll end up with the https://classic.wowhead.com/item=22046/right-piece-of-lord-valthalaks-amulet and be able to continue.
q28
Final Preparations
Provide Bodley with:
The bracers drop from mobs in LBRS, UBRS, and the passageways in Blackrock Mountain leading to the Blackrock Spire dungeon entrance.
q29
Mea Culpa, Lord Valthalak
Go to the Beast's room in URBS and summon Lord V using the https://classic.wowhead.com/item=22056 . Bring some https://classic.wowhead.com/item=5634/free-action-potion with you and use them in anticipation when Lord V spawns adds (Spectral Assassins) - they cast a 10-second stun on a random party member and this could devastate you if you aren't expecting it.
A https://classic.wowhead.com/item=9036 is very useful especially for his last phase, and if you have a Warrior its a good idea to spam https://classic.wowhead.com/spell=676 .
q30
Return to Bodley
On returning to Bodley he'll reward you with the https://classic.wowhead.com/item=22057/brazier-of-invocation , which you can use to summon any of the previous bosses from the quest chain every 10 minutes. You can farm them for loot which is pretty nice - they drop some of the strange https://classic.wowhead.com/item-set=520/ironweave-battlesuit set items too.
q31
Back to the Beginning/Saving the Best for Last
Head back to IF/Orgrimmar and pick up the last upgrades. Well done
Chest and Head upgraded. Set complete!
statscomparisons

This section is for those wondering what the actual total stats differences between T0 and T0.5 are. You can use the Base Stats Calculator to analyse these stats differences further. There aren't really any huge jumps in stats as you can see - T0.5 aren't raid sets after all. Set bonuses remain identical but are reversed in order as you upgrade, and some interesting class-specific bonuses come into play with certain items.

Wow, you surely put a lot of effort and lifeblood into this guide. Awesomo!
This is fantastically detailed and setout. I may utilise this when the time comes! Thanks yet again teebling!
Edit: I now have set Tier 0.5 as one of my goals for Classic, this is a great hybrid Druid set which would be perfect for PvP (especially world PVP).
Bravo!
Great guide! I nearly forgot how much went into getting Tier 0.5.
Thank you teebling!
I love this tier! Since I never raid it will be my final PVE objective to aquire all of it :-) Can't wait!!!!
Hurrah for da megachiever teeb' !
That will, undoubtedly, be such a useful thread to ogle at while we are fantasizing about a might that has yet to materialize. Perfect pastime for now and ideal study later.
Months, would you be ever so gracious as to shorten your span now ? Well, perhaps are they already quickening enough.
We witless curs !
10/10 another top post
How powerful is this gear in comparison to say T1 and the pvp gear? I have never played vanilla end game, and while I'd like to, I probably won't have a chance to raid. My favorite part of the game is open world pvp, however, so I'm curious if I'll be getting curb stomped if thur dungeon sets are the best I've got.
How powerful is this gear in comparison to say T1 and the pvp gear?
Rubbish in comparison with T1 - you might as well do a few MC runs (even if you don't 'raid' this won't be hard) to get some T1 if you want to stomp around world PvP.
This is really more of a collector's set if you see what I mean. It's only marginally better than T0 and most people did it for the prestige or because they didn't want to raid at all.
Most of the rogues on my raid team are running all the dungeons right now to go back and pick up their T0 sets. Apparently T0.5 is going to be relevant for those guys and be part of their raid gear. I'm seeing quite a few fury warriors going back to collect their T0 as well, apparently the upgraded boots are pretty good.
Either way, I'm looking forward to picking up the Spaulders of Heroism on my warrior alt. I was going to wear the Valor shoulders forever. Yeah they're worse than the current BWL pieces but they're not that much worse all things considered. I'm going to upgrade them to Heroism and wear them for the rest of the game. I love how they look like re-purposed football shoulder pads, they just make my pink haired gnome fury warrior that much more ridiculous and it makes me grin every time I play it, lul.
Thanks for the writeup teebs. I'm gonna be using this once this quest chain opens up in a few weeks. After the rest of the team and I work on grinding out scarab lord for our guy. Lots of fun stuff coming up soon, can't wait.
Apparently T0.5 is going to be relevant for those guys
Tier 0.5 wasn't meant for anyone who was raiding MC/BWL/AQ40 on a regular basis.
It was meant for people who casually played and only did 5 mans and light pvp because if you had all the gear from dungeons there was were no upgrades for you. That meant you needed to start raiding or play another game.
I dont think any class benefits from it at all except rogue...
But i do remember back then that not many people had MC/BWL gear compared to today's game.
Some of the 0.5 are on par with MC loot, mostly the epic 0.5 gear.
But like mentioned above it will only be for people that want to collect them.
And yes I have seen videos and guides online suggesting 4 piece Rogue 0.5 will be top tier gear as long as you have the right off pieces to make up for the loss in stats and attack power you will be losing on equipping the subpar gear just to get the set bonus.

Yeah, the set bonus is why the rogues are using it. Their dungeon set is probably the most useful of all the classes in raid due to their 6 piece set bonus. I went back through the logs and only one of the rogues in my guild is using T0 today, but he's the top DPS on my raid team. I don't see rogues on the other teams using it, but at least for this guy it is working. The current T0 set has the 35 energy recovery stat as a 6-piece bonus, and it is reduced to a 4-piece bonus in T0.5. So for those guys going to T0.5 lets them replace a couple of pieces with raid gear and get some stats back in the process.
My guild runs a % based DKP system. Not only has running the T0 set in raid allowed this guy to take advantage of the set bonus, it has also let him completely pass on armor pieces in raid and pool his DKP for other items such as weapons and trinkets. While the other rogues were spending their DKP on set pieces, he sat on his T0, took advantage of the energy recovery bonus for extra damage, and bought big weapons instead. I think maybe in a vacuum, if you could get your choice of every single item that dropped without competition then maybe T0 would perform worse than full raid gear, but this lets you focus on other raid items like weapons.
I know this stuff isn't going to be used in raid by most people, I'm picking up the shoulders on my warrior just cuz I think it looks cool. But for the rogues at least, there is some use here.
There is another reason why Rogues, especially on horde want their t0.5:
Cthun chest token. They share it with Warriors Tanks and Shamans, and for both its a huge upgrade. So whichever lootsystem your guild uses, you will be low priority and wait a long time (some lineups use 7 shamans) until you get it. And now consider you can't kill Cthun weekly.
So completing your t0.5 gives you some new items to work with while you wait in line or for Naxx and as Pippina pointed out frees you for nonset upgrades, which arent so bad in AQ40
I'll be doing parts of the line too, for the boots but as its almost done there I will probably finish it all.
Heroism looks like a good set bonus for grinding.
