I'm absolutely thrilled that Phase 2 is done with.

The release of BGs has re-ignited my enthusiasm for Classic.

Man, phase 2 fucking sucked ass. I can't put it much nicer than that. The human centipede of enemy players stacked mouth to asshole from every flight path to every dungeon entrance at all hours of the day was insane. Only reason I was able to make due for as long as I did was I got stealth on my side, and I got used to essentially RP walking in stealth all the way from Redridge up to Death Mountain to get any UBRS/BRD/LBRS/etc stuff done. I never wanna sit through that BS again.

But at the same, I'll be damned if that period didn't give some fun memories that are going to last for quite a long time to come. I'm super glad the rank griefers have moved on to battlegrounds where they belong. But we all got some crazy stories to tell for years to come. I enjoyed it in retrospect, now that it's gone, and never want it to come back again. It was like playing out the losing side of a horror film

The greatest fun I never want to have again.

I was not aware that AV had no group queue

I wasn't aware of this either. I agree that this definitely sucks.

If you and your friends queue at the same time, it is likely you will get into the same BG

We did try this 10+ times with a countdown in Discord, and we keep getting different games. Apparently, entering AV with friends only works on the Alliance side. I suspect that this is due to faction imbalance. There are more Horde than Alliance, making the Horde "waiting room" a lot bigger. When a new game starts, nearly all allies in the waiting room are needed to get 40 players, but only a small fraction of horde is needed. Rather than taking the people who have been waiting the longest, it just seems to do a random sample.

Anyway, I liked phase 2 for all its chaos. It was savage. I was looking forward to BGs for more fair PvP skirmishes where the numbers are equal, but the current implementation just encourages people to get PvP epics by fishing in AV. Normally I'm not one for complaining about Classic being Classic, but that is a tough one to swallow for a PvP fan.

Funny thing is you get way more rep defending by collecting items and it's way more fun if you're in a PvP spec.

Is this true? I noticed this weekend that I was getting a lot of rep even though we were turtling, and I was wondering if the Alliance had finally figured out how to turn a turtle into a decent rep farming opportunity.

What are the best items to collect for rep gains?

Bloods you get off slain players are pretty good. You can turn in 5 at a time and get 5 rep, they drop off players - usually around 5-10 for each player. It might not seem much but then again I think everybody in the raid gets rep whenever people turn in items. You can easily add up to 50-100 extra rep every game like that.

Wow, what a phenomenal description that will be immortalized in Barrens Chat history.

This reminds me so much of what is imo the greatest in game event in wow history: the scourge invasion event pre-wotlk. If you exploited it properly, the in game plague could be used by a single player to occupy entire cities by yourself. And there wasn't a damn thing anyone could do to stop you without some geared and coordinated action. I had so much fun.

Naturally, everyone hated it, because a single player could grief an entire zone. It was so hated by the playerbase that they ended the event like 3 weeks early. But that shit was amazing. I distinctly remember flying into Shattrath to find nearly the entire city a scourge infested hellhole as I circled it on my flightpath taxi. That happened in a lot of zones, and I still tell people stories about it, because it was fucking epic.

There are still organic and small scale PvP battles between people who are farming mats or heading to a dungeon, or just roaming around looking to pick a fight, but now those numbers are manageable.

This is how it should be, organic/fun world PvP!
Not 50(0) vs 10(0) battles.

I like the little battles or the chance of winning fights battles, not a swarm fest.
I just think opening up the BGs also opens up the world again to farm and level without fear of getting attacked by 50 people.
Which may still happen but should be rare depending on where and what your doing.
I guess less of fear

How do you like the PvP in Classic WoW?

Better than you expected? Worse than you expected? I think some players are surprised by the state of Alterac Valley, but that's how it was in 1.12.

Exactly what I expected.

I find the PvP sort of boring. Arena is more important than maybe even I realized.. Heck it's all some of us did in the expansions.

Those were different expansions. They were different games. If you don't like Classic, just be patient and Classic TBC will release.

The only PVP I've enjoyed has been organic stuff that spawned out of nowhere. The kind of PVP that can't be incentivized by rewards or mechanics or any gimmicks. A couple of times people on our side got so pissed off at the other faction that we grouped up and held blackrock mountain for a couple hours with about 3 full raid teams purely out of spite. And that was a lot of fun. Everybody was invested in holding that damn mountain for no good reason other than we hated the other faction and wanted them to suffer our wrath until they finally overcame our forces and we gave up for the night. There was no efficiency, no rewards, no reason to do it other than 'fuck those guys I'm sick of getting fucking camped and I hate them'

These kinds of experiences are born only out of the stupid honor system. Despite all its flaws, despite single handedly causing a lot of guys I used to play with to quit, despite rumors of servers going empty due to players transferring off in search of greener pastures, the honor system in all of its rawness certainly generated some unique experiences for us all.

I tried playing AV and WSG and it just made me angry. I tried random outdoor PVP and I still got angry. I just don't like PVP.
