Classic WoW will always be better than the Collect-a-thon, action hero, infinite mana, battle pet garbage that it is today.

Don't forget there is no more uniqueness to your class!

You need CC in vanilla? Get a Mage (sheep), rogue (sap) or hunter (trap)
You need CC in retail? Get that guy...
You need someone who can rez in vanilla? Priest, Paladin or Shaman
You need someone who can rez in retail? Rogue?? Death knight?? The answer is all...

I like the feeling that I am good at somethings, bad at others and great at one thing.
I'm weird but I liked that, maybe its simplicity....idk....

Retail is Mortal Kombat but with teams, pick a character and fight, everything is minimal, gear, cc, class...

To expand on this. I plan on rolling a mage for the $$$. gonna be poppin ports everywhere! NO MORE (ALMOST) Fast Travel with Retail.

Looks like our estimations of Herod were correct.

https://us.forums.blizzard.com/en/wow/t/overcrowded-realm-update/255835
Based on name reservations so far, the Herod realm is looking to be massively overpopulated. If all existing players on this server remain there, login queues in excess of 10,000 players are a certainty, and possibly much higher than that.

We recently opened up the Stalagg realm, and we urge players on Herod to consider moving there. There are a lot of players currently on Herod and we want Stalagg to fill up before we open any new PvP realms. This is so that player population is spread as evenly as possible before launch, in order to provide the best play experience.

While we are able to fit several times more players on a single realm in 2019 than was the case in 2006, we are not going to raise that cap any further, even though we have the technical capacity to do so. Raising realm caps would simply forestall the problem, letting more players in at launch but creating an unsustainable situation down the line, with severe queues when we turn off layering permanently before Phase 2 of our content unlock plan.

Please also note that our realm population estimates of Low, Medium, High, and Full are based on this increased capacity – a Medium realm today already has more characters on it than even the most crowded realms did back in 2006.

Our top priority in planning for WoW Classic’s launch has been ensuring that we are laying the groundwork for strong realm communities that will endure over the months and years to follow, which is why we’re cautiously opening new servers to meet demand.

Same goes for EU Shazz

https://eu.forums.blizzard.com/en/wow/t/overcrowded-realm-update/70777
Based on name reservations so far, the Shazzrah realm is looking to be massively overpopulated. If all existing players on this server remain there, login queues in excess of 10,000 players are a certainty, and possibly much higher than that.

We recently opened up the Gehennas realm, and we urge players on Shazzrah to consider moving there. I get that they're cagey about opening too many realms but I don't see why merging realms with low pop later wouldn't just be a good solution. Anyone who understands more than me please chime in

Yea, its all speculation but for those of us who have been following the project it was quite clear what numbers we were potentially dealing with. Sounds like things are working exactly how me and Lendryn had eluded to. Fairly predictable for those of us with a keen eye.

We still dont have the exact numbers but we're definitely in the ballpark of 40-100k players and layers are definitely limited by Blizzards anticipated retention rates for the squish leading into phase 2. The wait times on these servers will be dumb... Absolutely dumb and for an extended period which will only compound over time as the layers are naturally removed in preparation for phase 2.

People want to be on full pop realms now until they realize that the more layers you have, the emptier each layer feels and the layering system is not as intelligent as advertised. I cant imagine waiting for an extended period of time to gain entry into a realm that feels more vacant.

Well, Whitemane was my primary but I might move to Stalagg or Fairbanks. Gotta see how the population is on Whitemane.

People who are knee-jerking at every shift in population make me laugh so hard. I have watched people I know switch servers 3-4 times since server announcements lol. People who just arent following the information we have and are instead reacting to every change in population they see on the realm selection list lol. Its actually hilarious.

some people love to have something to agonize over. do a lot of these people also still not have their faction/class 100% nailed down? i bet there's a lot of overlap

Not only that, how many of these people are scarred to commit to a realm, so they have names reserved on 2-3 realms and are counting towards multiple server counts. I almost guaruntee we could delete one FULL server just based on the amount of people who are locked into several realms.

I'm posting the realm populations as they increase cuz it's interesting to see how full they actually get. It's not even particularly useful, it's just cathartic to see them fill up as we approach the launch of the game that Blizzard said we didn't want.

Your number crunching on the rate of fill has been very interesting. Closest thing to a hard numbers that we have.

I'm perfectly fine with que times but blizzard needs to open more servers. I don't think they realize that people who reserved their names make up about >50% of the players so far.

Yea, I've been watching the server pops increase as the days go on as well, your posts are great to keep everyone updated. My previous post was directed at those who are rerolling everytime they see a shift in populations.
