Should blizzard add more realms due to the fact that most of their current realms are full, high or medium population? I'm fine with a que on the first few days, but every day will get tiring.

What's the point of opening more realms when players stick to the crowned realm ? they opened a 3rd pvp server in europe but they still notice allot of players remain on shazzrah.

the problem isn't the number of realms, they will open them if the number of players necessitate it. but *most* players are dead set on those 2 pvp realms, mainly shazzrah and that's the issue.

The problem is that while you can get individual people to move to a new realm, it's very difficult to get guilds worth of people to move to a new realm, after they have already committed and advertised for the realm they are already on.

I'm sure they are planning on the instant gratification folks leaving the game pretty quick and running back to retail.

Besides the guild dynamic many people are not willing to delete their reserved names only to fail to get them on new servers. People on the Blizz forums are asking for a 4th name slot which would just confound the population stats even more.

Either way they'll have to do something once the mass of people who aren't interested in paying for names show up on the 26th.

You can't force people to move. You can stand up a nice new server next to the ones with 12 hour queues though. Let people choose for themselves what's more important to them. Having a specific name, or being able to log in and play. Once everybody sees the reality of the login queues they'll be able to decide for themselves.

I wanna add on to what I just posted... I'm not suggesting it's a simple answer of 'stand up a new server, these retards need to get off the full servers'. Lots of people have already set up shop in these places. They haven't progressed past level 1 yet, and have zero hours of in-game progress. But lots of people already have spent lots of time networking and preparing with their guild and maybe in collaboration with other guilds. So you really can't just kick people off a server, and there is no easy solution.

But just stand up some new ones. Their lower queue times will let people really assess what's more important to them. You get a couple of progression guilds deadset on week 1 MC trying to beat each other to the punch with half their core players stuck 20,000 back in login queues and we'll see how many of them don't decide to move their entire guilds over to greener pastures. All blizzard can do is open up new fields and let people move organically from there. There will be lots of complaining but things will sort themselves out from there.

Assuming there isn't an influx of new players, I feel as though the current server situation works well. Many people will want to stick with the high pop realms regardless, and new realms won't solve that problem. Stalagg still sits at a medium pop these days later, and I am starting to wonder if we'll see it grow to high. But anyway, the servers seem as good as they're gonna get based on player behavior right now, in my opinion at least.

Right now, there's a LOT of chatter in Modern realms trade chat about Classic, and numerous people are saying things like "I know five people who plan on playing classic and only one of them has reserved their names" or "I know ten people who plan on playing classic and NONE of them have reserved their names". The existing name reservations alone have almost completely filled up the existing servers.

These people in trade chat might be totally full of crap, but Blizzard needs to consider the possibility that they have underestimated demand for this by a whole order of magnitude and launch day will be a shitshow the likes of which they've never seen. I'd expect at least a doubling in the number of available realms within the first week.

Upon launch day I have a feeling big brother blizzard will lock the full realms so that the wave of launch day joiners can't join those realms. This means that Stalagg will see an influx of players until it is full, the same will go for other servers that are not full. Until Stalagg is full I don't expect to see another East PvP server.

I have a very eerie feeling that Blizzard will have so many problems with the launch that the solution for them is to set the servers to offline during their usual maintenance hours ( which consequently would've been right after launch )

"Sorry for the inconvenience but sharding is broken and we are working on a fix" or some other ridiculous excuse like that.
It's not hard by this point to see it really happening.

Come launch, players will be running on the spot or jumping around with a bot to avoid getting stuck in the login queue the next morning. They haven't changed the character selection timeout which is currently 30 minutes. The 2 PVP Servers they originally thought was a fantastic idea are both now packed to their limit before even more players have shown up.

In the US, 3 servers are at "medium" and the rest are all high/full. Europe is seeing similar loads.

The onus of server balance is on Blizz. Not the player. Servers should get a soft cap when they reach capacity so that we dont see an overflow of 10k players on a single realm.

"But HuuR DURRR what aboutDA GUilds of players and someone will get left out?!?!"
Good.

This is the way to have players ACTUALLY move and be willing to balance their server. If your 5 man tries to create on a server and 3 guys get cut off, you will be more inclined to go to another server - thus contributing to server balance. If your 40 man guild loses 10 members because you chose a full realm - your guild will be incentivized to choose a lower pop server. The same could be done for faction balance. "BuuUUu BuuUu NO! DaTS not fair what if I cant make my toon where I want to make it!?" Then you will make it elsewhere and your group will likely follow, which contributes to launch balance and is a good thing.

Asking players to balance themselves when they dont even have access to what the faction spread is will be ineffective. The players who are attracted to "FULL" realms, will not be the same players who are willing to compromise and go onto a medium or low pop realm because you asked nicely.

Should they add more realms? Probably but I actually think its wise to add realms slowly so that they fill before adding a new realm. It would have been better if name reserves were isolated to a specific realm so we would have had an accurate population number on each realm. I'm fine with them slowly adding realms so long as they add the realm BEFORE the previous realm hits "FULL". Once it rolls over to "HIGH" a new realm should launch and at "FULL" the previous realm should cap out.

I think humorously long queues will be the great equalizer to force player movement. Let people decide for themselves what they are willing to put up with.

I agree with this too. Name reservations should have been locked to a single realm. Picked a name on a server? Cool, you got two more names total and they can only be made on that server. This way Blizz would have better metrics for where people will end up. And They shouldn't just blanket open up a lot of new servers. The goal is to have servers with lots of people on them, so waiting until everything gets to high population before standing up a new one is probably a good idea, which is what they're doing.

Something else I noticed is that NA alone now has 5 FULL servers. Blizz has only given a bluepost yelling at people to move off of one of them. We're assuming that the population target is 'high'. I think Blizzard wants all the servers to be full. The problem with all of us in the peanut gallery is that we have no idea what the numbers are behind these labels. One 'full' server could have 50,000 more players signed up than another 'full' server  I think they are trying to get servers to hit their soft caps, and once they reach the soft caps new players are supposed to be dissuaded by the UI handing out warnings about extended queues and suggestions to try somewhere else. And Herod in particular probably just has spectacularly more players past 'full' than the others.
