Assuming there isn't an influx of new players, I feel as though the current server situation works well. Many people will want to stick with the high pop realms regardless, and new realms won't solve that problem. Stalagg still sits at a medium pop these days later, and I am starting to wonder if we'll see it grow to high. But anyway, the servers seem as good as they're gonna get based on player behavior right now, in my opinion at least.
Welp Stalagg is at high, that didn't take long lol.
I think Blizz is underestimating the popularity that Classic will reach... by a lot. There are a whole slew of players that are planning to play classic (return or brand new) who don't currently play retail and weren't willing to pay for a sub just to reserve a name and play a couple day trial (stress test). I think that launch day will see a lot of demand but I think Blizz likely has the infrastructure to at least increase the number of layers to support all these players. They should, however, plan to create a number of new realms on launch day if the demand necessitates it.
I think Stfuppercut is correct. While there are a number of guilds that are already stacked with players and headset on playing on a certain server, there are plenty of smaller groups that are planning on playing together who will be far more fluid that most of you seem to think. If you have a couple friends playing and only two of you log in with the others 2hours estimate in line then it's entirely possible that that group will instead decide to roll on a lower pop realm to be able to play together.

They've already added 3 new North American servers, 2 European English servers, and 2 European German servers, plus god knows what in other languages and regions.
And then launch day will see 5x that demand.
Everything will be on fire and it'll be awesome and terrible at the same time :)
Black Monarch Maybe Blizz is trying to make it as close to a real vanilla launch as possible
They have been slowly releasing more realms. One issue is that you can still reserve on full servers. They need to lock full realms from future registrations from accounts that do not already have a character on the realms. This alone will pull a TON of people off those full realms, people will be forced to choose full realm or playing with friends. I think most will reroll to a new server to play with their friends who didnt get the name reserve.
Blizzard would be flat stupid if they didnt have like 15 more realms ready to turn on at launch. As a server reaches high pop, turn on a new one. So you always have every server high or full and then 1 additional pvp or pve server that is not high pop.
I suspect there will be a couple of new server at least for Spain.
3 new pvp servers popped up last night..so they are adding
At this point, seeing how it's still growing, I'd say a few more realms would help. Glad to see classic is popular, but hoping Stalagg won't become a full mess like Herod
