So with the rumours of TBC abounding after Blizzard's last survey, of course we're all going to be rolling a Draenei or Blood Elf alt on launch! Wondering what the split is going to be like so thought I'd put a poll up.
Personally I was a really big fan of the Draenei starting zone Azuremyst/Bloodmyst - it was such a huge change in aesthetics and atmosphere from the Classic zones. The otherworldly feel of the crashed spaceship and the mutated nature mobs really made it feel new and exciting:
And here's a pic of the Blood Elf starting zone for those who want their memory jogged:
I won't be basing my choice off of racial traits but they did play a big role in TBC so here they are summarised for anyone wandering (this is taken from a blue post from 2006, before release by the way so values may differ on Classic release):
/images/tatticons/alliance.pngTBC Draenei Racials
Gemcutting
Racial Passive
Jewelcrafting skill increased by 15.
Shadow Resistance
Racial Passive
Shadow Resistance increased by 10.
Heroic Presence
Racial Passive
Increases chance to hit by 1% for all party members within 30 yards.
Blessing of the Naaru
40 yd range
1.5 sec cast - 3 min cooldown
Heals the target of 50 damage over 15 sec.
The above Heal value is indicative of a level 1 character as value will scale with level.

Arcane Affinity
Racial Passive
Enchanting skill increased by 15.
Magic Resistance
Racial Passive
All resistances increased by 5.
Mana Tap
30 yd range - 30 sec cooldown
Drains 50 mana from your target and charges you with Arcane energy for 10 min. This effect stacks up to 3 times.
Arcane Torrent
Instant - 2 min cooldown
Silence all enemies within 8 yards for 2 sec. In addition, you gain 5 Rage/12 Mana/20 Energy for each charge of Mana Tap currently affecting you.
The above Mana value is indicative of a level 1 character as Mana values for this ability will scale with level.
Looks to me at first glance anyway that BE seem to benefit more for PvP with he silence and mana drain/stacking buff whereas D is more for solo PvE and group content with the hit buff and solo-scaling heal.
There's also current progress to consider... personally starting as D is the most attractive but at the same time I won't be able to make use of any of my mainly Horde gold bank and mats that I've farmed up. Then again, starting completely fresh has its own benefits too :) They may actually start us out all fresh on the TBC server...
I lean towards Blood Elf purely comparing the two races but I usually play Alliance side, so we will see. I love the Belf starting area and think they just look much better/cooler than Draenei. Never been a fan of Azuremist personally.
I'll be sticking with undead but, if i had to choose it'd be Blood Elf. That is only because i am Horde only.
I'll be making some of both, I'm definitely an altoholic lol.
On the dranai side I'll be making an enhance shaman for sure though.
I hated the new races when TBC rolled around. Never felt right with large goat people in my groups, nor did it feel right having shamen all of a sudden. I'm going to stick to my current characters and bring them with me to TBC to continue their adventure.
I’m personally not a fan of either, but of the two I prefer both the belf starting areas and their racials. That said, I play alliance so I probably won’t be doing much more than playing a belf alt through the starter zone at some point.

I'd rather have space goats than Vulpera though, at least space goats are all over in the lore.

Every time I open the launcher and see a Vulpera Deathknight it reaffirms the fact that I can never go back to retail.

Its clearly Blood Elf but i do like Draenei though.
I loved Outland's Scryer/Bloodelf aesthetics, gorgeous!
I liked the idea to bring in 2 new races into WoW and allow horde to have paladins and alliance to have shamans.
TBC was clearly the cherry on top version/state of WoW.
Soon as you start adding new classes...i starting to not like wow.
Sorry death knights, you cant tank, dps and heal to solo bosses...how is that not OP lol
Since I plan to roll a pally on horde side I won't many many options, willI? :D

Lol I love how hyperbolic a lot of deathknight hate is. They were never tanks and dps simultaneously, and they can’t heal. Meanwhile warriors in classic are THE main tank, and the top dps if specced properly? You play a lock, a class that can easily juggle 4 mobs at a time, has self heals, and can be top tier dps in latter phases, and is one of the most fearsome pvp classes? The grass is always greener it seems.
Draenei..because I'm tired of everyone playing Blood elves, including me. and I never got to play TBC back in the day so this will be like a re-launch, without all the problems and Like teebling said.

I dont want to make this a death knight discussion, but what i meant was death knights at 80 in Wrath can solo current content.
Basically do alot of damage to pull aggro and be a tank and self heal them selves.
Ive seen it in the Dalaran dungeon, Violet Hold i think, I remember our healer kept dying but the death knight tank was able to solo the last quarter of the dungeon with no true healer.
I didnt mean they could heal other people but that fact that a death knight can solo heroic dungeons, Sartharion, and some previous expansion raid bosses is very OP. And in PvP they were laughable because you were just dead lol
