Holy shit!

https://us.forums.blizzard.com/en/wow/t/alterac-valley-adjustments-incoming/422125

We’ve prepared a collection of improvements that we’re going to make to Alterac Valley in WoW Classic over the next few days. Our goal is to make surgical adjustments that address some of the more prominent pain points and unfortunate behaviors, without cracking open the substance of the battleground.

As Soon As Possible

We’re working on a hotfix that will go live soon that will make honorless targets unlootable. This is intended to further discourage camping the starting caves as an efficient activity.

With Scheduled Weekly Maintenance

Several concurrent adjustments should positively affect the initial state of each instance of Alterac Valley:

  • Alterac Valley will now allow parties of up to 5 players to queue together. When a party queues together, they will be placed into the same battleground.

  • There will no longer be a number in the name of the battleground in the “Join Battle” screen.

  • We’re fixing a setting that allowed the battleground to start with as few as 20 players on a team.

  • Soon After the Weekly Honor and Raid Reset

In WoW Classic (and original WoW), players who get fewer than 15 kills aren’t given any rank progress, and are given a standing amongst other players who had fewer than 15 kills. This standing is ignored and causes confusion, so it will no longer be displayed.

Finally, we’re updating the calculation of diminishing returns to match patch 1.12 of original WoW. When WoW Classic first launched the Honor System, we made the decision to decrease Honor by 25% per repeated kill. With world PvP being the only option for obtaining Honor at that time, this made sense. Now, PvP has primarly moved to battlegrounds where repetitious engagements can happen with much greater frequency. Starting next week, Honor will now decrease by 10% per repeated kill in both battlegrounds and world PvP.

Quite important, hopefully some queue times improve on my server. Not worth even going to the capital city to queue up. Also party queuing is a great addition.

All of those changes are good but they could have done it a month ago

I really wonder what that reduced diminishing returns for honor points on the same target is going to do. In the past, enemy players had a motivation to move on and not camp you for more than a few kills. Now you give more honor for more kills, meaning it's worth it to camp somebody for longer. Previously you'd start yielding 0 honor after 4 kills, now you yield 0 honor after 10 kills.

Compound that with the fact that people can join AV in groups of 5, now death squads can return to the countryside and camp flight paths again.

PVP on Fairbanks has been pretty fun outside for a while now. With most people in the battlegrounds, there are only a handful of rankers outside trying to clean up between AV queue pops. And they've been out in much smaller numbers, which has resulted in enjoyable encounters. Small scale 2v2, 2v3, etc types of fights. Wondering if this is gonna change.

I only wanna play AV normally/for fun (as a PUG) so the change is gonna get me back into it personally, hopefully

Unless alliance neckbeards start queuing as groups of 500 to bypass the BG # change, but that shouldn't cause games to start with 7v40 anymore

It seems like non-premade Alliance AV groups have a better chance of winning now. I was never going to join a premade anyway, so I stopped playing AV after a couple of matches. Seems like all the good AV players were getting in on pre-made matches before, so PUGs were filled with scrubs and didn't have much of a chance.

Well I think this will make the good players go to WSG premades. And in any case Horde have gotten WAY better in AV due to the training we've been getting by fighting premades all day in AV xD When I was grinding AV to exalted Horde was beating like 1 out of every 5 premades compared to losing to pretty much all of them when it was freshly released.
