This sounds incredibly silly, I know. But I have never seen this expressed anywhere, so here it goes.

I cannot play any other race than a Blood Elf. It's a deal breaker to me. I cannot bare to see my character be anything else. I tried Humans - they're funny, weird and incredibly boring. I tried the Undead - they are the closest to the Sin'dorei in lore, sure, but they're still Forsaken, still barebones (haHAA), still filthy.

Don't get me wrong, it does not pain my soul or anything (TBC > vanilla anyway, so not playing Classic is fine in my book), but it still feels wrong when this world [of Warcraft] is not for me. The funny thing is that I agree with Horde traditionalists tirelessly proclaiming that my race does not belong on the faction. It definitely does not. But having them unplayable breaks my heart more than working with filthy Orcses and Trolls :)

My [vanilla-destroying] fantasy would be to have the BC races and starting zones in 1-60. Along with the 2.3 quest additions to the Dustwallow Marsh zone because it's a cute improvement. But fear not, nothing of the sort is ever going to go through.

As to the reason why I love them - it's due to their being a magical race par excellence, having nothing left but their hunger for glory.

At least, I still have Reforged to wait on where hopefully they will be depicted as it suits them. I'm an optimist on that front.

Night Elf?

Night.....Elf
Blood....Elf

I mean it's not the same but you can pretend (Role Play) you are a Blood Elf disguised as a Night Elf to learn the ways of the Alliance.
Or you can pretend (Role Play) you are Night Elf but realize this is not for you and start something new!
Thus Kael’thas, who believed the Orcs weak and worthless due to their lethargy in the camps, would see that lethargy visited upon his own people. Desperate for a way to save them, he made the infamous ‘Sin’dorei’ declaration and created the Blood Elves.

That you started it all with Kael'thas in vanilla wow!
You 2 wanted to break ways from the alliance and the night elfs to become what you love!

This way you can play vanilla knowing what will become of your future!
This is only the beginning of something great!

I'm the opposite of this. I can't play as a Blood Elf lol
It's taste, everyone have their own.

I cannot play any other race than a Blood Elf.

1. Night Elves are the opposite of the Sin'dorei in the lore.
2. Night Elves can be neither Warlocks nor Magi. Kaldorei Arcanists would actually indeed be cool and check my kinks (the Shen'dralar from the Dire Maul), but they're only available in the g-d-forsaken Cata.

Who's dat? Is he a Blood Elven supporter? It's legit my own account. I'm active in the WC3 Reforged forums, and this is the nickname I use everywhere (coming from Tolkien's legedarium, Adûnâim=Númenóreans).

Again, I don't want to draw your ire, I'm not even suggesting anything, not for real. But this is my hindrance, what denies me the pleasure, what breaks my fantasy before it is even formulated.

YOU MONSTER

On topic, I think you'll have many people say that Blood Elves are not "True Horde" and rightfully so. My main was a blood elf from TBC on, but even still I get why they are not liked. Blizzard even told us that they wanted a "pretty race" on the Horde to spice things up (read: have more ally players play the Horde).

@Adûnâi (<3 i just had some spare time and wanted to have a little fun)

This sounds incredibly silly, I know. But I have never seen this expressed anywhere, so here it goes.

I cannot play any other class than a Death Knight. It's a deal breaker to me. I cannot bare to see my character be anything else. I tried Warriors - they're funny, weird and incredibly boring. I tried the Paladins - they are the closest to the Death Knights in lore, sure, but they're still Alliance, still a disease (haHAA), still have no taunt.

Don't get me wrong, it does not pain my soul or anything (WotLK > vanilla anyway, so not playing Classic is fine in my book), but it still feels wrong when this world [of Warcraft] is not for me. The funny thing is that I agree with Plate traditionalists tirelessly proclaiming that my class does not belong on the character select screen. It definitely does not. But having them unplayable breaks my heart more than working with filthy Shamanses and Hunters :)

My [vanilla-destroying] fantasy would be to have the WotLK class and starting zones in 55-60. Along with the 5.3 change allowing more than one DK per server because it's a cute improvement. But fear not, nothing of the sort is ever going to go through.

As to the reason why I love them - it's due to their being a magical melee class par excellence, having nothing left but their hunger for vengeance on the Lich King.
...All that I am: anger, cruelty, vengeance - I bestow upon you, my chosen knight. - The Lich King's first words to a new death knight

At least, I still have Reforged to wait on where hopefully they will be depicted as it suits them. I'm an optimist on that front.

I've been horde the majority of the time I've played, and I don't see any reason for blood elves not to be horde. What's the argument that anti-blood elf horders put forward? They're pretty? They're elves? The horde's about strength, honor, ferocity, and guile. The blood elves exemplify that well enough to satisfy me.

I do have to admit that I don't really like blood elf animations, in general. The stance is too exaggerated, the 360 spin (as opposed to Nelf's front flip) doesn't appeal to me, and overall it's just prissy.
But lore-wise, I have no qualms with Blood Elves. I'd say their juiciest lore begins and ends with Kael'Thas, and that he died in a pretty insignificant way in a 5-man. Their allegiance to the horde isn't really adequately explained, since the political intrigue between the Scryers, House Sunstrider, and whatever other blood elf factions there are is easily lost on someone not paying close attention (RE: me and anyone else who didn't play through Tempest Keep or a lot of other BC content when it was current).

Other than a lack of solid motivation since their most obvious faction leader fizzles out and isn't definitively for or against the horde; enslaving Naaru, mana addiction, yea I'm there for it. I feel like if we call them not "True Horde" because they're pretty or whatever that's just lame. There were plenty who needed homes, they're a strong faction, Sylvanas is a former blood elf, close ties to the trolls, yada yada yada. There's lore reasons in there that are enough for me.

As far as not playing Classic if there's no blood elves, yea that's fine. Sounds like you have your mind made up.

I feel the same way towards Worgen. I switched over to alliance on MoP because all friends had changed side after Cataclysm, which I didn't play, and fell in love with the race. I just can't play any other allied race.

In TBC I had a friend who really, really, wanted to play paladin, now that there were paladins over on Horde, but he hated Blood Elves with a passion. Even the running animations. And we used to make fun of the character because he was so "pweety". Also the fact that people started picking Blood Elves as their primary ERP chars probably didn't help at all to the cause of that race on our realm xD By the end of the expansion I think everyone got used to the elves specially after patch 2.4 when the Isle of Quel'Danas was introduced with Magister's Terrace and Sunwell. Also the fact we were killing elves helped!
