From a few days ago but just saw it.

We've been working on bringing some relief from the queues to the highest-population WoW Classic realms in both the Americas and EU. We'll roll that out in the coming days, after we test it internally. Thank you for your patience.

Queues are back on Fairbanks again. It's been a while since I've seen them. Nothing bad, upwards of 30 minutes or so.

Anecdotally, I have also seen a lot of old names from my friends list that I added while levelling in the early days of Classic. I had not seen a lot of these people on in a long time. I've also been helping a lot of people level in the guild who are building their first 60's right now. Seems like a lot of people are turning to Classic while we all sit at home and wait. Interesting times & I'm glad we all have this community to fall back on these days.

Any word on what their solution is? Their post made it seem like they were developing something, but it looks like they just opened another round of free server transfers. Was that it? Don't know about you guys, but my guild's solution to the queue is not to transfer servers, we're just logging in earlier so we don't miss raid night.

So far the only thing I've seen is the free transfers they opened up.

I'm sure that took a couple extra days of testing in the ol lab before they rolled that out.

looks like laying is back on the table boys

https://us.forums.blizzard.com/en/wow/t/open-question-an-alternative-to-queues/495289
The circumstances of the last few weeks have led to an unexpected increase in both the numbers of players that have been playing WoW Classic, as well as the length of their play sessions. This has caused some of the most-popular realms to see queues again. While free character moves can act as a relief valve for players who just want to play a particular character regardless of the realm it’s on, that’s not the only tool in our belt.

It is possible to temporarily raise the population cap on a given realm by turning layering back on. While I can only name half-a-dozen realms in this region that really have extended queues right now, I wouldn’t be surprised to see a few more realms experience queue growth during this remarkable period we’re living in. So my question for you is this:

If your realm was experiencing one-hour (or longer) queues during peak play times every day, would you want your realm temporarily increased to two layers, to shorten the queue? How do you think that would change your gameplay experience?

As always, thank you for your feedback.

I guess layering as a solution is fine. Some people will scream about it, though.

I just think they should do more to encourage people to take free transfers to lower pop servers. At least it would make those servers better to play on and make the big servers require less time layered.

Interesting. People in the comments seem to be generally favorable of it as well.

You gonna transfer off your server?

No because my server is already low pop.

Now imagine that your server is full and there are queues. Are you transferring off your server?

Not sure. I don't see why saying that Blizz should at least make that an option is bad? Like, fine. Nobody does it. But why are you jumping on me for saying it's worth a shot?

I'm just curious what you'd do in this situation. I ask because I don't think character transfers off of full servers reduce server populations in any significant manner. A free server transfer away from a server with a queue is pretty similar to selling your house and moving to a different state because the traffic on your morning commute got a bit longer. This does indeed happen, but not in significant enough amounts to reduce the morning traffic. Most people don't leave their communities that easily. I can't think of any incentive Blizzard could offer me to leave my friends and server behind. The primary reason I still play the game is to go be on my server and be around the community I levelled up with and have spent the past 7+ months getting to know. I can imagine that server transfers appeal to those with no social ties to their server, but I can't imagine they represent the bulk of any given realm.

Server transfers only reduce populations if people actually leave. It seems like most people who suggest this solution are expecting others to leave so they can stay and benefit from somebody else leaving. In my experience most people who ask for server transfers aren't willing to leave their server themselves. And if the majority of people proposing server transfers aren't willing to leave themselves, how effective is this? What do you think Blizzard could realistically do to make people want to leave their communities behind and move to new ones? I ask because I can't think of anything that would make me want to leave and I was getting stuck in 2-3 hour queues for the past week or so.

Blizzard actually talked about it quite a bit, what they tried and different options they considered to try to help in a huge post here.
