Is this an import from pservers? Are they doing the same thing on retail now too?
The WoW token has brought it in for the most part. Since you can buy gold for RL cash legitimately on retail, you can then use that gold to buy boosts through content. People sell full clears of the latest raid for gold, as well as carries through almost all other content. The culture of it has then bled over into Classic as far as I can tell.
I think the best solution I’ve seen pitched for the chat spam is just a separate “LookingForBoost” channel. Would at least get rid of most of the annoying spam. That would do nothing to solve the problem of no one to actually play with at low levels though.
Speaking for my server the LFG channel would be empty if it weren't for people buying/selling boosts.
I don't mind boosting and people paying for it. I think it wasn't as popular as nowadays but people certainly paid for boosting. If memory serves right, me and my friends used to boost each other's alts in Vanilla. I have fond memories of my decked out druid friend boosting me through SM while chatting.
You know what else I remember? Paying people (quite a lot for somebody as broke as me back then) for opening UBRS - how about that?!
Boosting is fine, we just see more of it in classic because of knowledge of the game, it has happened in the past and is happening now and will always happen in every iteration of WoW.
I didn't get paid but i would run my friends through dungeons in vanilla and in classic.
Sometimes its nice forming a group with similar lvls and running the dungeon as intended but sometimes its nice to have someone breeze you through content to speed things up a bit and not have to roll on gear.
The thing i think is stupid and needs to be removed are the players/bots that run people through dungeons/raids and are exploiting/cheating.
I watched one video of a mage sky jumping and gather mobs in ZG and aoeing them down with no worries...

Theres services like this all the time in wow, pay someone to open lockboxes, enchant something, transmute something, water/food, portals, summons, help with elite quest....the list goes on and on....and boosting/running you through dungeons/raids is another paid service.

I think that's something special about this game. There's a lot of things that suck that the community solves. It takes forever to travel places, so some people create a couple of extra accounts and level a bunch of warlocks and create a summoning service to transport people to popular locations. Vendor food and water is expensive, so mages hang around town selling fat stacks of conjured goodies. Levelling alts can take forever, so people study and learn the solo routes to offer levelling services. Lots of things that are negatives at face value, but create opportunities for people to solve in-game.

I don't have a problem with any of this on its face, the only time I take issue is when these services detract from my experience of the game, which really only applies to boosting. Mages selling food does not detract from my experience of generating enough money to pay for food and water. Rogues selling lockpicking services does not detract from my experience of paying blacksmiths and engineers for lock opening services, and paying a warlock for a summon does not detract from my experience of paying an npc for quick travel services. People selling and buying boosts constantly does significantly detract from my ability to form groups for low level content, detracting from my overall leveling experience. Again, I understand boosting completely. If anything, the current situation is just a reflection of the community as a whole, for better or for worse.

I am not saying selling mage food or rogue picking services are bad or a problem, I was just relating it to boosting and how they are both paid services in the game. I get why people sell their services and i get why people buy these services.
Remember, "Time is money, friend".
But i do get what you are trying to say that boosting culture affects the leveling experience for people that are not boosting which causes less people at your level to group with to do group content. Especially worst at this stage of the game where majority have a 60 already, but like i said this is more common now because of knowledge of the game and the Retail mentality of rushing to 60. Its a different time so this was bound to happen for people who dont have the patience or time now a days to level slowly/normally.
It's already too hard to make a group, and getting boosted isn't even playing imo. Wish it would go away
