I saw on a stream that this was working /console colorChatNamesByClass 1
To set the text in chat to the color of the class. Makes it easier to know who's talking.
But i tried it in the stress test and i couldn't get it to work.
Anybody know if it stopped working already? XD

Doesn't work on beta. You sure you were watching someone on the Classic beta?

This functionality was added in patch 3.0.2 and is also accessible through the interface options on later versions.

I know there was/is an addon that does exactly that. Maybe take a look at willitclassic.

Probably an addon command that got integrated into the game later.

I think the command is incorrect, it should end in zero.

/console colorChatNamesByClass 0

Just wanted to update this thread since I was searching for this on google and this page came up

These commands do work:

/console SET chatClassColorOverride "1" -- turn off class colours
/console SET chatClassColorOverride "0" -- turn on class colours

Yes, setting to "0" does turn on the class colors. It's backwards from what I'd expect. Also note that it does not change the character name color of text that has already been sent. After sending the /console SET chatClassColorOverride "0" command, all new incoming chat will display the class colors.

Looks like the previous commands were incorrect because they were missing the quotation marks around the number.

I use prat which shows class colour (and their lvl if you've seen them, or /who'd them). Prat has a lot of neat features. They only real bug I've noticed is that the chat history feature shows incorrect Real ID names when you log back in. So I'll be talking to Fred, log out, log back in and it will show the chat history (which is great) but will be shown as messages from Bob. It's confused me a couple of times!
