I've definitely played through all the starting zones at least once. When I was 13ish when I first played this game, I had severe altitis. I remember my first character was an Orc hunter. I still don't like Durotar too much. The color scheme is meh to me. But I still remember Zalazane and all those quests very well. My first 60 was a Tauren druid, and I remember loving Mulgore. Gorgeous colors, nice music. I don't remember as much about the questing in this zone, however.
I never liked TIrisfal Glades too much, either, but I think I'll try it out again when Classic launches (in 10 years.) I also dislike the Night Elf zone. The colors are too night timey for me, and the music too generic LOTRish. Elwynn is great to level in. Lots of really memorable areas and mobs. I also love Dun Morogh. I've always liked mountainous, snowy climates.
What about you guys?
To me: Tirisfal > Teldrasil > Mulgore
I just don't like being a Tauren or Night Elf. I mainly stck to humans.
Tirisfal is just so well made, an obvious favourite for me. The overall story of the zone, Forsaken and Scarlet Crusade, as well as knowing this was Arthas’ birth region. It’s all so very eerily atmospheric.
Teldrassil follows, the whole place being in a giant tree, and how beautiful it is. The music calming and gives you a clear feel for what the night elves are.
Dun Morogh comes on third place. The cold and mountainous regions does a grand job showing what sort of climate this is, and the wonder that is the Gate of Ironforge will always be breathtaking when you make your way up the trail.
Durotar is fourth. It does well showing the harsh lands, but the region still feels a bit naked. However, it’s still a very nostalgic zone to me, and I do enjoy questing there still.
Mulgore is beautiful, not nothing too special to me, same with Elwynn Forest, though it’s very iconic still.
Personaly i hate Teldrasil, i find it so boring and ugly, sucks even more knowing my main will be Night-elf and i would need to lvl through that zone again...
I didn't play much in Tirisfal Glades but I can see why it is considered the best starting location overall, not just for the lore but also for its questing layout. I personally didn't have any attachments to this particular zone as I wasn't used to liking Arthas much and Undead didn't appeal to me but I'm increasingly starting to love this zone and the race. Tirisfal is one of the most iconic starting zones. I personally would probably put them in this order: Durotar --> Tirisfal Glades --> Dun Morogh --> Elwynn Forrest --> Mulgore --> Teldrassil
Although Teldrassil on the last place, I always loved all zones with elven theme but as a starting zone, on Teldrassil I feel kinda distanced from the world. Eventhough I love the zone, I get an anxious feeling at the same time.
There's something about Elwynn Forrest that keeps me coming back. Goldshire is just too simple and Hogger is iconic for me. Tirisfal Glades and Silverpine comes in close second though.
Teldrassil, without any doubt. The background music is absolutely amazing and the voice acting of night elves is one of the favorites.
Biggest nostalgia blast comes from Durotar though. And the scorpids. There is something special about this not-too-good-looking zone.
I never understood what's so special about Mulgore. Of course, it's nice. But...cows? Really?

The atmosphere in Teldrassil is immense. But nothing beats Elwynn Forest for me for original nostalgia! When the music kicks in it brings it all back.
I was alliance back then so I'll go for a Horde zone this time around. Any recommendations?

If you consider yourself and Alliance player - then I reckon it would be interesting to go undead. Great potential to actually have a backstory for your character in your head (e.g. if you were a human priest in the past, you are now continuing your duty yet under different banner - as a risen Forsaken).
Tirisfal has a good story. UD look badass. Go for it.
Lots of mention of Tirisfal, maybe I’ll off and UD toon?
But my heart remains in Dun Morough
My top 3 favorite starting zones are, in my opinion:
1. Mulgore
2. Dun Morogh
3. Teldrassil
Mulgore is easily my favorite. The entire zone just makes me feel so comfortable. I get an instant feeling of peace when I am in it. I love to start a new character there and just relax and listen to the amazing music it has.

Tirisfal Glades for sure. It has great quests, and I enjoy the aesthetic too. Spooky fun! (Also, the nostalgia factor - my first character was an Undead Warlock.)
