No doubt I will be making my dosh in classic like I always used to: honest to god farming of profession mats and selling straight onto AH.

I remember using the lumber camp north of WSG entrance im Ashenvale for linen and wool cloth, and then the Swamp of Sorrows tauren camp for silk and mageweave. Aside from this Arathi seemed ok for elemental air (from the dust elementals).

Do you guys remember any good spots for mat farming? And perhaps more interestingly are there any areas that used to be good for farming something in Classic that are now not so much in retail?

I used to run my L60 rogue through Razorfen Krall to farm Radiant Shards for the "fiery" enchant. I had a path laid out that was fast and I would exhaust the 5 dungeon resets per hour limit. I was able to exploit a little flaw in a wall to climb up to Amnennar the Coldbringer without going all the way around the spiral. its laughable now, but I would get about 4g per shard which was big money back then.

Well for thorium it was definitively Ongoru crater and mithril in blasted lands.. didn't really farm any other profession mats.

I know it's not vanilla but I remember soloing Stratholme in WoTLK as a pally and making about 300g a run.

Do you think they will leave in the old wall walking and terrain clipping stuff or will that have been obliterated in the new client they’re using?

Farming Hydraxian rep and the mats for Sulfuras was my best memories of Vanilla days ontopic ;)

I have created a guide with grind spots with a brief description of each spot. It's mainly focused on grinding while leveling.

Looks good :)
But it would be nicer, and reach more people, if you relocated that guide to our Barrens.chat forum.
I can help if you need.

Sorry to necro an old topic but found an alright spot for farming level 1-50 cooking mats: all around Thunder Bluff you will find wolves that drop https://classic.wowhead.com/item=2672/stringy-wolf-meat , and plainstriders/swoops that drop https://classic.wowhead.com/item=6889/small-egg .

Was a useful spot for me because I wasted all my https://classic.wowhead.com/item=769/chunk-of-boar-meat that I had gathered in Durotar by default off the boars. For next time save those chunks to do Cooking skill ups to 50.

Cooking is great for the 15min stam/spirit buffs you get and also if you’re a Hunter it provides high quality foods for your pet (less frequent feeding early on when they are less loyal and more hungry).

One of the best one (in PVE servers) was the cave in northern Hillsbrad, the one with yetis. If you had skinning/mining it was really the best place ever!

nice compilation!

might want to add one more detail:
58-60, Eastern Plaguelands
farming the three different types of plague bats, depending one which debuff affects your class least. they drop ok loot, are plenty, and can be skinned.

I was a tailor and I used to do Silthus a lot for https://classic.wowhead.com/item=14047/runecloth and crafted https://classic.wowhead.com/item=14152/robe-of-the-archmagi . After that, I stayed around Silithus for the PvP which was fantastic when AQ was getting hot.

but is easy to make gold in classic. if a team dont die you can even farm 5 man dungeons.

My favorite is https://classic.wowhead.com/npc=92/rock-elemental in Badlands on my prot paladin. The northern part is less crowded and you can AoE all the mobs from about level 42+ with the right gear and spec. By the time you regen mana and health they will already start spawning again. The item you're after is https://classic.wowhead.com/item=7067/elemental-earth that sells for quite allot on the Auction House. Other classes can also grind here, but it's not as efficient as a paladin I believe.
