I was raised as a young lad to never pop potions and always duel in a small BEST OF 5 or 7 series.
In terms of respect for your opponent, would you say pre-mounting before the flag drops a good, bad or whatever thing?
Who cares for etiquette when your opponent is someone whose single plan is to cut your head off?
I don't really think there is an etiquette... It sort of depends on who you are dueling. Most times if im dueling a rogue I stand still and let them get the opener because this most closely represents an organic encounter. If I'm playing against a warrior, I typically start in charge range etc etc. Though when I'm dueling I'm typically working on an aspect of my play, so I typically want to challenge that aspect and I artificially add challenges that will help me get better. I usually only find myself dueling with my premade team or if I roll a new spec and I want to test a certain aspect of my new build.
I know that many people competitively duel and I've never really been drawn to that and while im okay with people popping consumes and stuff in duels, I think it mostly depends on the terms in which you are dueling. Is this just a random guy that drops a duel flag? I'm probably going to try and get every edge I can and flatline this nerd without overly investing in the duel. I'll use medium duration cooldowns and I'll use grenades etc, but im not dumping potions into this. Is this a duel with someone I shit talked? I will quite literally go broke dumping consumes and tryhard into this fight because my ego is more valuable than my gold. I've even been known to ask for nearby buffs from friends hoping that this turd doesnt call me out on it. Anyone have a healthstone? Is this a duel with a friend? We're probably on discord trying to work on something specific and we have a mutual objective.
No potions/consumes - everything else is fair play. If someone drops a flag.... kick their ass with whatever you have - but don't waste consumes on that shit. Save them for the real deal.
You can use engineering on me in a duel, because I assume you are using it to practice for the real deal - but all other consumes, don't do it.
If it is a duel you just say what rules go before it begins, In World PvP bring everything and pop everything to survice
Edit: Survive*
Grenades and Bandages
I've seen on Beta it was considered etiquette to let a warrior melee swing someone or a critter to do their AP shout before a serious dual.
I don't understand why you would want to mount up unless you plan to run away?

Because it's super easy to catch a rogue or druid out of stealth just by running in a circle while mounted in classic.
Used to be using consumables, professions, non-organic buffs, and 5 min or greater CD's was poor etiquette. Nowadays anything goes.
