In a recent interview, the classic wow development team said that they would not put in the OG epic mounts at the begging because they did not want people to feel rushed while leveling for their first time in vanilla. Is this justified?
I think too many people would have them and they would not feel as unique or exclusive as they did in vanilla.
I'm a druid so most of my travel is not mounted, so I don't have a strong opinion on the issue.
i really do not care for mounts. never got the Epic pala mount and took the pvp horse till i got exalted with AV and then rode the Ram to piss people off.
Yes! I don't want to feel rushed while leveling my first time.
This I agree with. I do not want to feel rushed while levelling.
However, that does not mean I think certain items should be unavailable. I also think it's a choice to feel rushed towards something, it's not always something that us forced upon you.
Would be cool if you could be flagged as eligible for obtaining it if you log in and reserve your characters name, when it opens up in those two weeks before launch. Sort of like you were there before patch 1.12. Blizz should do this to create even more hype and a stronger incentive to get in earlier.
The Palomino was one of the goals I was really looking forward to as well :(

Would feel a bit like pay2win, though.
Everyone who pays an extra 13 bucks would get a chance for a rare mount, everyone else wouldn't. I think that would just result in a big outcry, and imo Blizz is already pushing it a bit with requiring a sub to play beta and selling reservations for names.
Overall I feel like it's the right idea to not include them. Blizz is right in saying that it would make people feel like they have to rush through that otherwise wouldn't, and on top of that the reason why we'd want these mounts now is because they're rare, but the moment you make them available like that would result in the majority of people having said mounts and it would lose its novelty.
Similar thing with selling T3 on the BMAH on Retail. It was a rare sight to see T3 b4 and it felt special. But when they put it on the Auction House soon enough everyone had a set of T3 and it just wasn't special anymore, just yet another transmog set for people.
I'm fine with not including the old mounts. There are plenty other good looking and rare mounts to acquire.
It's a bit sad to see that they won't be implemented, but gameplay wise there's really no difference.
I think getting a 100% speed mount will be an undertaking anyway regardless of the fact that you would need to rush to get an unarmored version on top of that. But I can understand the people wanting to dedicate their first experiences on classic doing this.
The vanity of the unarmored mounts only became a thing after people realised they wouldn't come back which makes the situation totally different.
If they wanted to pull a similar trick this time around, it would be to use the armored mounts, and then implement the unarmored ones later on in order to fade out the armored ones.
And to why they would want to do that, I have no clue.
I understand their intent with this change, but I was really looking forward to making a push for the unarmored white raptor. I often ride it on retail, when I DO play retail. Just for the old school badassary.
It's whatever, they got gone in 1.4 right? Seems fine to me.
Seems like an alright decision. There's plenty of other mounts to get.
I don't care for mounts in Classic. For collections and other things I got retail version now :)
I only care for the AV Ram for my glorious Human Ret pala
