Stress test ends today.
I don't have an invite to Beta.
Looking to this community for the best "vanilla" options to get my fix between now and release.
Someone suggested I google "retro wow" in another thread. Is that the consensus favorite or are there better options to pursue?
Thanks in advance to taking the time to reply... sincerely appreciate it.
Cheers.
If you are looking for some practice leveling, try Northdale with LightsHope to do some 1-20 practice.
If you are looking to test some different classes and builds at 60, an instant 60 private server like retro wow.
Thanks for the info my friend... I appreciate it.
Forgive me for being completely ignorant here... but are Northdale and LightsHope two different private server options? I'll google stuff when I get home also but if you're willing to PM me a link or something, I'd appreciate it.
Cheers.
On this same idea, I was thinking about just spinning up one of the repacks on my server just for local leveling practice. Does anyone know if there are any repacks made to run on Linux? I suppose I can get a windows server spun up, but I'd have to use trial licenses I guess.
LightsHope is releasing a fresh server tomorrow called 'Silver Hand'.
It is aimed at those wishing to experience low level content on a new realm and those looking for a final challenge since all content is available.
Thanks Ice, good to know.
Cheers.
No problems. If you have any more questions let me know.
I'm definitely going to check it out tomorrow, to get a bit of a feel how Classic launch is going to be.

Yeah, that's a good point... it'll be a nice way to experience that feeling...
How to the private servers work in terms of gaining access? downloads? system requirements etc? I can't access the site (assuming it's lightshope.org) from my work PC but I plan to check it out this evening when I get home.
Thanks again...
Cheers.
In terms of gaining access you need to have the copy of the game with patch 1.12.1. This can be downloaded from Kronos WoW website. Secondly create a game account on the site you mentioned, and lastly set your realmlist to the new server.
The download itself is around 5gb in size and the game can be easily runned on any modern pc or laptop.
I was just thinking... I wonder if people are planning to leave the private servers when Classic is released or if they'll stick around where they have time invested, etc.
Also wondering if Blizz will more vigorously pursue shutting down the vanilla private servers once they're up and running with classic.
Cheers.
Yeah that's a good point. I think most of the people will leave private servers after Blizzard launches Classic, because private servers always have the uncertainty of being shut down which means losing all the player's progress.
Anyway, the Light's Hope servers will be wiped and shut down before Classic release. They have announced this to their community.
Most people on private servers have been waiting for Classic WoW for a long time, pretty sure they are going to give up on their characters. Either way, Lightshope GM team is going to finish the project just after Classic launch.

If private players are guilty of anything, its that they are constantly seeking F R E S H realms. The majority will flock to Classic as a F R E S H start. They are also totally accustomed to abandoning their progress and restarting.
edit: in regards to your questions about accessing the new realm, all info can be found here...

Icestyle is correct, this would be the BEST place for you to practice leveling in preparation for Classic. Disregard my previous comments about Northdale. This realm will be VERY populated. Any experience you gain here, will be 10X more challenging than what you will face with layers in Classic. Be prepared for a total shitshow (in the best way possible). This will be the final chance you will have to see a realm with a MASSIVE population in vanilla before layering.
