I am more heavily considering just buying a new PC after the comments, possibly this one.

8gb RAM / Ryzen 2600 / RX 580 4GB / 500gb SSD / ~$620

Not sure if I could build a computer in time, but I'm looking into if the cost is comparable to that.

Though I hate to spend the money, the official classic release is a bit of a once-in-a-lifetime event and those new graphics are beautiful.

I would advise you to step down in processor power and get more ram - like Ryzen 1600 (or even lower) and 16gb RAM.

Thanks, I'm also looking into upgrading the current system, but it seems like a bit of a waste. It's a Dell Inspiron that I had for work purposes before circumstanecs made me switch to it.

Great shout - I used pcpartpicker to build a mini ITX and the price tracker/list building was very helpful.

Trying to decide between https://www.newegg.com/crucial-16gb-288-pin-ddr4-sdram/p/0RN-0005-006C9?Item=0RN-0005-006C9 and https://www.newegg.com/crucial-16gb-288-pin-ddr4-sdram/p/0RN-0005-006C9?Item=0RN-0005-006C9 for the memory upgrade. Mostly I'm worried about the compatibility with the system (Dell Inspiron 3668), but it seems like the red one has some features the other lacks like heat spreading.

For the GPU I am getting https://www.newegg.com/asus-geforce-gtx-1050-ti-ph-gtx1050ti-4g/p/N82E16814126170?Item=N82E16814126170

As for the SSD, someone I know volunteered me one of theirs that they are not currently using.

Hopefully the i3-7100 will be alright with all that.

You linked the same memory if Im correct. Check prices of 1060 3gb and even second hand stuff. You should be alright.

Hey guys, graphics went well as did RAM and SSD. I got the GTX 1050ti 4gb and 16gb RAM now.

My recommended settings went from 4 with roughly 65%~ resolution to 7 with 100% resolution. Many things that were otherwise recommended to be disabled are now enabled and even on High.

However, I have a friend with AMD Vega 8 graphics and a friend with an 8gb card, and they're both sitting at 7 recommended as well. Perhaps Blizzard does not officially recommend anything higher than 7? Anyone get recommended an 8 or above?

Whether I can go higher or not, 7 will definitely be beautiful. Thanks for all the help!

That is probably the better idea. The system you linked is much better all around.

Another resource you can check is PC Part Picker:

https://pcpartpicker.com

But if you don't wanna complicate things, the rig you linked is still going to be a hell of a lot better than what you already have.

What kind of monitor do you have?

This is perfect. You can probably achieve 120FPS and buy a 120Hz panel/display and take full advantage of the RX 580.

You're off to a great start! I would recommend upgrading the CPU next. at leas to an i5 or i7. if not intel change to AMD and get a 1600x / 2600x or 3600x they are great for gaming just like Intels i5 series.

Guys guys guys

It's a 15-year-old game. You can run it at max settings on integrated graphics. I know because my priest is currently grinding Black Morass for Keepers of Time rep, and this is being done at maximum settings on AMD integrated potato graphics.

Updated. View distances are much further than before, shadows have increased, lighting has increased and foliage has increased..all requiring more rendering, powerful hardware..compared to iGPUs

Have you seen the new classic game engine? They actually cranked the graphics way up. Yeah it's still using old models and textures but they added all the lighting, particle, water, sunshaft, and shadow effects from the modern engine. The graphics slider goes from 1-10, and it notes 'classic' graphics setting at position 3.

You're not getting 165fps on a 165hz 1440P display with integrated potato graphics. This isn't actually the 2004 game client, it's running the modern engine.

Man I have the same question. I just upgraded to a liquid-cooled Ryzen 3600 and a triple-fan RTX2080 with all-NVMe storage and 16GB RAM and the game engine is recommending a 7 for me, too. I don't have the highest of the high end hardware, but there's not much above other than an intel CPU at 5ghz and an RTX2080ti.

I cranked everything to max settings anyway, and I'm still getting 100~165FPS @ 2560x1440, tested on retail. So I'm thinking maybe they just don't recommend beyond 7...

Depending on how recent a version you're talking about, AMD's integrated graphics are much better than the intel integrated graphics.

On Intel I was getting 15 FPS with frame skips at max graphics in a starting zone with low numbers of people around.

I think that just about confirms it that nothing above 7 is recommended. At the very least you should have had a higher recommendation than me.
