Hey all! Was wondering if anyone was still rolling new toons? The reason why I'm asking is I want to get into classic as my serious MMO but as I mentioned in a previous post:
This is rather a sad story, however..I didn't get past level 21..my guild disbanded and I don't have any friends that play Classic. Trying to make an actual friend in-game is easier than retail..but they don't want to level at the pace I was..very slowly because I had never played Classic/Vanilla before. So I haven't played seriously since November of last year..haven't had a subscription since December of last year.
I was wondering how easier it would be to actually party up with lowbies and be able to run dungeons.
Server wise, I'm not sure which to choose.
Is it too late to start playing classic as a "new" player?
Let me know what you guys think?
I don't mind either faction, I'd like to play with fellow BC players..North American region and that have a lot of patience. I don't have an active sub right now.
Nah, it's not too late to start. Plenty of fun still to be had. We're just now gearing up to open up the gates of AQ. Just know that the time of the fresh server is over, and most people are hanging out at level 60. People still quests and dungeons, but lots of people are boosting their alts just because we're in that stage of the game now. A cool side effect of that though is the levelling zones are more open now, so it's easier to get questing done. I half boosted my alt, half quested my way to 60.
The upside is that if you find a guild and start raiding, you can get mega geared in a few weeks. You get caught up real quick if you find a spot on a raid team. I just got my warrior alt up to level 60, and in one week picked up 5/8 T1, T2 legs, some raid weapons, and a bunch of other pieces. People on raid teams already have basically every piece of loot from MC but still run it anyway for thunderfury bindings. This means if you find a spot on a team, you can vacuum up all the MC loot you want and be caught up and ready to raid with the team in BWL and AQ. Hell, the entire purpose of the ZG raid is to get new players ready to raid BWL > AQ and beyond.
I'm on Fairbanks Alliance side. Fairbanks is a west coast server, so the server runs on the PST time zone. The guild I'm in has three full raid teams, and we all raid 7PM-11PM. We got a Sat/Sun team, a Tues/Weds team, and a Thurs/Sun team. It's a casual guild, lots of people bringing world buffs, but it's not a requirement. We run a percentage based DKP, which is designed to promote round robin loot distribution. Hit me up if you want in.
I think it would be fine to start with a new toon, as Pip mentions you should be able to catch up on gear fast.
When I play low level alts I never seem to have an issue getting groups. Sometimes I'll get a boost if I need to afk while getting levels but it doesn't feel like it's really impacted being able to get regular dungeon groups.
I just started leveling my rogue alt a few weeks ago. You can absolutely level no problem, it can just be frustrating forming dungeon groups sometimes. I play on Grobbulus-Alliance, and there’s still tons of activity in the lowbie zones. If you want to make it easier to form groups you can just roll a tank. However, as I mentioned in your other thread, I would always recommend that you start with the class that gives you the most immersion, because enjoying the class your play while you are alone out in the world is what will get you through those stretches where you can’t seem to form a group and you need to knock out a few levels solo questing.
For me, that means playing non-magic users, because that’s what gives me the most immersion. I love every class in the game, but what gets me “lost in the game” when I’m out questing or just grinding mobs is using tools and weapons that exist in the real world to hunt and fight all the monsters out in the wild. Nothing beats playing a nelf hunter and hunting down trolls in the hills of Arathi. Rogues and warriors give me that same feeling, because I like just playing a dude fighting all these crazy monsters, demons, zombies etc. using just the tools in my hands. But that’s what works for me.
I guess that was an extremely long and unnecessary rant to say, yes, you can still start a new toon right now no problem.
I appreciate all the feedback! I'll probably be waiting another few weeks before I dive into Classic, especially since I work full-time and have to make time to play games and relax. :)
Even on my dps alts I can still get groups, it helps that I'm the one leading them though. If I try to wait for a group that I didn't start it can take a long time.

I think the first and most important question here is, alliance or horde and what time zone?
Just a heads up so you know where the servers are right now - the AQ War Effort begins on July 28th. After that, people can begin turning in mats and once somebody completes the scepter of the shifting sand quest chain, the gates of AQ will be open. It's anybody's guess as to how long that is going to take, but it will take at least one week due to the raid lockouts required to complete the scepter and ring the gong. Given the sheer amount of materials needed to open the gates, maybe it takes 3-4 weeks, but we won't know until it happens. If you want to be part of this then I'd get started and see how fast you can grind out some levels.
I will be making a new toon and going most likely either warlock tank or

It is never ever too late to play wow classic...never ever..
Its a journey of unthinkable pleasure and fun...
Plus since everyone is geared out, when you join a guild and start raiding you will get geared fast and not be too behind.
And if you get 60 right before the infamous TBC Classic servers happen you will be ready and be on par with everyone cause the questing gear is equivalent to BWL lol so you wont be behind.
I found a pretty friendly, helping guild on Westfall, heavy alliance based so I rolled a DWARF HUNTER. :)
