Our next WoW Classic stress test is getting underway tomorrow at 2:00 p.m. PDT 152. Here’s some additional information to help you make the most of it.
Launcher Update
Earlier today, we updated the Blizzard Battlenet Launcher on the World of Warcraft game screen. It’s now easier to select the version of the game you want to play. Now, when you look in the Live section of the Version dropdown, you should now see an additional option for World of Warcraft Classic . If you have multiple accounts for your selected version, you’ll see a second dropdown with your accounts listed to choose among.
In order to participate promptly in the stress test tomorrow, please make sure you install the game in advance by selecting World of Warcraft Classic from your Live accounts list.
Realm Differences
During tomorrow’s stress test, we plan to experiment with different settings that control the population of players. We plan for it to be a blind test, so we don’t intend to publicize which realms have which settings (or when).
We’d love to hear your feedback on your experience from level 1-15 on whichever realm you choose to test. Was it too crowded, even for a launch day experience? Did it feel too empty or too crowded after you moved to the second zone? We’ll have a dedicated feedback thread for you here in this forum tomorrow, once the stress test has begun. Please give us details about your experience when you submit feedback to that thread, especially which realm you tested.
Thank you very much!
Sounds very much like they are testing different versions of layering/sharding on different areas/zones! Very interesting, would love to see the feedback!
I'm super excited to hear the outcome. I cant wait until all this testing is done and we get some real figures... I want to know a definitive answer to how many layers a server will be capped at and how many players will be on each layer. This will completely dictate how much impact layering will have on phase one! 2 layers per server at 5k population each? I'm a happy camper. 5-6 layers at 3k population each? Yucky. I'm disappointed.
Just an FYI, I was able to select, install, and run WoW Classic since they've made that change to the launcher- it took me all the way to realm select screen (where all realms showed as offline).
I don't have a sub.
So it may be possible that this next test is a free-for-all.

I really doubt that, blizz said all active accounts. You can download the modern game without a sub too.
The realm select screen is farther than anyone without a sub was able to get before this stress test.
We'll just have to see tomorrow, but I'm preloading wow classic just in case. No reason not to.
I haven't had an active account since 1month after BFA release, it doesn't even show up as an option in Battle.net launcher for me though, so I am surprised you have the option with no active sub Executive.

Same for me, I have 3 Battle.net accounts(1 US and 2 EU) - I can download Classic and reach realm select screen on the US account. No active sub for years on any of them.
4.80 GB download, if anyone's interested.
Do you have the just-updated version of the launcher, selexin? You might have to restart.
EDIT: the above poster might be on to something: I have multiple accounts as well, neither with subs.

I restarted launcher to ensure it had updated, still nothing in my list other than Retail WoW. I have 5 accounts.
tl;dr: Everyone has beta access now, it's not invite-only to subs, but you still need to sub to actually log into the realm. Or at least that's what it seems like.
To be clear, this beta access is limited to the stress tests etc? Users aren't getting full access to the beta with an active sub are they?

When you say "full access to the beta" if you mean ability to level up to 40. No they cannot. This is stress test for 3 days and max level allowed is 15 as they said in blue post. And yes active sub is required for any of those betas.

Aaaa, okay. Thats what I had figured. I'll continue to play the full game on private for now then haha. Thanks for the response.
Back to the topic at hand. Interesting video regarding the current state of layering:

Currently functioning almost exactly as I had anticipated during our initial discussions Selexin. Really hoping these tests address some of these obvious issues.
