Hello!

So going into Classic I feel like we are in a unique position considering the game was already here and there was quite a big private server scene for it before it is released.

As I haven't been really invested in the pServer community and Classic Community over the past few years I was wondering who are the "best" guilds coming into classic. Who are the guilds that are going to be racing for "world first" and speed kills?

I'm primarily interested as I am a raider in retail and I enjoy the competitive aspect of PvE - I'm hosting a podcast around raiding in retail WoW and for classic release I'd like to grab a few of the best classic players and talk about.

Thanks for your answers and I'll see you all in SVT!

Sounds like you're looking for others to gather some info for you. I'd go to legacy logs and check out raid parses to see who has the best speed clear times as a starting point. You could try contacting APEs and other notorious guilds from the private scene, but not many will be willing to relinquish much in terms of strategy at this point.

Well that's exactly what I'm looking for - notorious guilds. But since information is spread across multiple private servers and years of (re)progression I thought I'd ask the general community that knows the scene better.

I'll look into legacy logs tho, thanks for the tip!

All of that info can be sorted through on logs as you can isolate individual servers, just takes a small amount of effort and research on your part.

Try to talk to Staysafe. I think his aim for his guild in classic is 11 day Ragnaros kill. He has played on some notorious pserver guild before (can't remember the guild's name).

The two biggest guilds from private servers to look out for in Classic will probably be the EU guilds <APES> and <Progress>.
On private servers they have occupied the top spots.
But now that <Method> have announced that they are putting their hat into the ring. https://twitter.com/Methodgg/status/1163880409702326272
That might also be a guild too look towards.

It will be interesting to see who Method's Classic guild consists of, they won't be sacrificing players from their retail team because that's too lucrative for them right now and they need to be prepping for the next raid tier constantly (AP farm etc).

I can see them going with the majority of the main-team guys. Vanilla grind isn't even remotely close to what it's like on retail.
And having that said, they'll probably destroy any "private server elite guild".

Looking forward to seeing their race.

I was under the impression Method where not taking part, only hosting this? There was something on Reddit clearing this up, can't find it at the minute.

Unless Method has a separate 40-player team that's been practicing on private servers for a while, they're going to get their cans creased by the pserver teams.

I dont think Method will actually compete, Sco has made that pretty clear in the past. He could have changed his mind, of course, but I think he mainly sees a business opportunity in a coordinated cooperation with the guilds that are actually competing. Just my 2 cents, though. I haven't done the research.

Other than that, for the OP: 4 guilds that might be interesting to you from the private server community:
- <APES> You've already heard of these. They are generally seen as the most dedicated Classic Guild around.
- <Dreamstate> Have been around for a long time on private servers and have always been very strong. Recently played WotLK.
- <GRIND> Brings together a lot of very hardcore players from very strong private server guilds. Not found in logs, because of new name.
- <Salad Bakers> These formed after my private server days, but they are featured heavily on legacyplayers and I am aware they will play.

Fun fact: all of these guilds are expected to play on Gehennas PvP (EU) at the present time.

Edit: Should be obvious, but my opinion is, of course, based on my own experience. With the exception of Salad Bakers, I have either played with or competed against these guilds :)
