That's a pretty interesting map. Interesting they pictured Kalimdor so small and Ulduar to be its own continent.
this is crazy! never seen this before but its ace to see! Thanks for sharing
Blasted Lands is where Arthas would be, that's interesting. Ulduar as an entire continent would've been crazy to see too.
Don't know why my brain read Lilduar at first.
Wasnt this map posted in another part of this forum earlier?

Doesn't seem like it if you use the search function. But why would it matter anyway, it's not like he's blatantly reposting for karma, /shrug.
This map looks cool tbh, Kalimdor being this small seems accurate to me.
This map was drawn by Chris Metzen early into WoW development so everybody from the team could easily look up where places are located. At that time he really placed Dark Portal in various places before finally moving it to where it is. At least this is what I found in the WoW Diary.
Don't be surprised with inconsistencies and retcons. Afterall, Metzen retconned Eredar/Sargeras arc in TBC and I believe he later admitted he didn't even realized. Warcraft never stuck to its mythos and had plentiful retcons.
That’s so cool
Seeing this is like reading all those flavor books you find laying around on tables and floors across the inns and capital cities in the game. There was a lot of content talked about in there that didn't make sense at the time but was eventually added. I remember hearing or reading about northrend years before wrath, maybe even before TBC. It's pretty cool that stuff was eventually fleshed out.
I've never seen this. I'm loving how much of this community is digging up old pre-2006 content and sharing it. This is a great experience. Hopefully the Classic community isn't a cesspool like retail.
painted on the wall
He didn't even bother with a canvas... just painted it right on the damn wall?
Wow, what a treasure! Thanks for sharing!
Stuff like this has always fascinated me. How different would people's experiences in the game be if only a couple things were different on this map in 1999.
In a similar way, you can read the 3 or 4 prototype scripts for Star Wars back from the early 70's and see how different things could have been. The reason you have the name Obi-wan is that there was originally a droid called OB-1. Just the in-the-moment decisions of original creators is fascinating in how much those decisions have or could have shaped what came after.
