PvE Marksmanship Hunter Stat Priority – WoW Classic

Nevermore Nevermore • Updated June 7, 2025

In WoW Classic, Marksmanship Hunters have a very similar stat priority to their fellow brethren Survival and Beast Mastery Hunters! In this section, we’ll display each stat in terms of importance and offer in-depth explanations.

Stat Priority

  1. Hit Chance
  2. Critical Strike Chance
  3. Agility
  4. Attack Power
  5. Intellect
  6. Haste
  7. Stamina
  8. Strength
  9. Spirit

Hit Chance is the most important stat for almost any character in WoW Classic, including Marksmanship Hunters! The cap for Hit Chance in WoW Classic is 9% but Hunters can function with 6% Hit Chance. Marksmanship Hunters have the option to spec into the Survival Tree to acquire the Surefooted talent for an extra 3% Hit Chance, but only in the beginning as the build is not optimal long term. The Hit Chance you will acquire will be mainly from gear, including special enchantments such as the Biznicks 247×128 Accurascope. In addition, certain races such as Trolls and Dwarves also have innate Hit Chance when using certain weapons through their Gun Specialization and Bow Specialization racials.

Critical Strike Chance is an extremely important stat for Hunters in general, with Marksmanship Hunters making extraordinary use of it! It increases the overall chance of all your Auto-Attacks and Abilities to deal Critical Strikes! Hunters have talents that improve Critical Strike Chance, benefiting from Mortal Shots and Lethal Shots, meaning that players should aim to stack as much of this stat as possible. There is a hard cap for Critical Strike Chance, however, in WoW Classic it is so hard to achieve the cap, that players shouldn’t bother worrying about it.

Agility is one of the primary stats for Marksmanship Hunters, increasing their overall Critical Strike Chance, Attack Power with both Melee and Ranged Weapons, Armor, and Dodge Chance. This is the primary stat you will want to stack as much as possible besides Intellect, to increase your Attack Power and Critical Strike Chance as much as possible! Since every bit of Attack Power increases your damage while Critical Strike Chance simply scales amazingly, you will want to grab as much Agility as possible.

Attack Power, just as mentioned previously, is a stat that increases the entirety of your Damage Output, boosting both your Auto-Shots and your Abilities. You should never aim to get items that directly grant raw Attack Power unless there is no other better option or if the item itself grants a mix of stats among which you can find both Agility and Attack Power. Ideally, You should get Ranged Attack Power from special items such as your Quiver or Enchants only. Some Ranged Weapons in the game also provide raw Attack Power being a great pick until you can get something better (Agility/Critical Strike Chance).

Intellect is a primary stat that increases the overall Mana Pool of Marksmanship Hunters along with the chance to score a Critical Strike Chance with spells. You will want to stack a considerable amount of Intellect to acquire a large Mana Pool since you won’t use any Spell that can benefit from Intellect. The only ability that realistically benefits from Spell Critical Strike Chance is Arcane Shot, which is not in your rotation.

Haste (Attack Speed) is a stat that increases the frequency of your attacks! This stat is somewhat rare, being available only from a few sources such as specific enchants or quivers. Hunters can also gain this stat from the Improved Aspect of the Hawk talent and from the Rapid Fire ability for burst sequences.

Stamina is a stat that increases the overall Health Pool of a Marksmanship Hunter! The stat is mainly found on your core items so you shouldn’t go out of your way to acquire it. You will basically want it to avoid becoming a Glass Cannon.

Strength is a stat that increases Melee Attack Power for Hunters. This stat is absolutely useless for you if you don’t plan on consistently Melee Weaving in combat, which is often sub-optimal in terms of Damage Output.

Spirit is a stat that increases Health and Manar regeneration. Sadly, Marksmanship Hunters have no access to in-combat regeneration, meaning that Spirit will only help while out of combat. Some of your BiS items will have Spirit on them but you should not proactively attempt to get any Spirit!

PvE Marksmanship Hunter Stat Priority

Nevermore Nevermore • Updated June 7, 2025

The stat priority for PvE Marksmanship Hunters is extremely straightforward, being very similar to that of other Agility-based physical DPS classes such as Rogues, minus the need for the Expertise stat.

Stat Priority

  1. Hit Rating
    • Cap: 164 rating, or 132 if there’s a Draenei in your party (Heroic Presence)
  2. Armor Penetration Rating
    • 1400 Armor Penetration Cap
  3. Agility
  4. Critical Rating
  5. Attack Power
  6. Haste Rating

Stat Explanations

Hit Rating is the first stat that you should max out, as it ensures that you will not miss with your ranged weapons or abilities. Thankfully, Hunters require a low amount of Hit Rating, only needing 8% or 263 Hit Rating to reach the cap.

With the help of the Focused Aim talent, we only require 5% bonus hit chance, or 164 hit rating. Furthermore, if we take into consideration Heroic Presence which grants us an additional 1% Hit Rating, we will only need 4% bonus hit chance, or 132 hit rating.

Armor Penetration is one of the best stats that you can acquire in Wrath of the Lich King as a physical damage dealer. It reduces the target’s armor by a considerable amount, increasing your overall damage. The cap for Armor Penetration is 1400, you should always aim to max it out or come as close as possible to it.

Agility is the innate stat for Hunters, it enhances your attack power and Critical Strike Chance. You should use gems that boost your Agility after you manage to reach your Armor Penetration Cap. As the cap is harder to reach in the early phases of the game, you should socket Agility gems over Armor Penetration before you manage to acquire the items that raise your Armor Penetration Rating by a high amount.

What you should understand is that 1 Agility = 2 Attack Power points for a Hunter!

Crit Rating is a stat that highly impacts the gameplay of a Marksmanship Hunter, as we aim to land as many critical strikes as possible. You will want to favor Critical Strike Chance gear over haste gear while also using yellow gems that enhance it even further.

You gain a 1% increased chance to crit for every 45.91 crit rating you have.

Attack Power is an innate stat for all physical damage dealers, increasing the offensive capabilities of your attacks and abilities. However, you should only enchant your gear with Attack Power and never use gems that enhance it, as you can gain more attack power from Agility.

Haste is a controversial stat for Hunters, you do not require a lot of it but it can certainly boost your damage output by a considerable amount. However, you should not aim to enchant your gear or use gems that enhance your Haste Rating, as you will benefit from potions, bloodlust/heroism, and other haste-increasing effects.

You gain a 1% increased attack speed for every 32.79 haste rating you have.

Are you sure 1agi=2ap? Everywhere else that I have seen (including p.servers) 1agi=1ap.

For an example take gems for agility (16) and attack power (32). You just get also crit from first 1 while by second only ap

1 agility = 1 AP…. was 1 ag to 2 ap …. changed in TBC to 1 to 1

1 AGI = 1AP, the amount and strength is different however, as someone mentioned you get 32AP on a gem, and 16 AGI on a gem – same goes for enchants, enchant 44AP crusher on gloves and 20 AGI on gloves (while not exactly the same the point still applies).

This doesn’t mean 1 agi is worse than 2 ap for MM though, it’s better in fact as it boosts other stats as well, such as crit and scales with buffs such as blessing of kings.

Armor pen is pretty weak in early stages though this should be noted and after hit + agi hunters should be focusing on crit primarily. only at very late stages should you be focusing on armor penetration. pass on grim toll and gain DPS

Effectively AP statweight should be seen as twice the amount instead of a single amount due to this, is what he’s probablt trying to say. not that you actually get two attackpower from one point of agility

Correct aslong as you spec properly 1INT = 1AP.

agi being a standard 0,95AP is not always true tho

Achualy 1 agi = 0,98 ap
and 1 int = 1 AP
and yet all the guids ignore int as a stat.

True and false at the same time, yeah 1 INT grants 1AP or even more if you take other things into consideration, however this only applies if you take a certain talent. if this talent is not taken it gives no AP at all.

This talent is ofc picked by pretty much every hunter spec out there that I’m aware off – but I have seen some builds running around in dalaran that might make you wanna think twice before holding it is absolute fact.

I do agree it should probably be disclaimed tho

PvE Marksmanship Hunter Stat Priority

Kurathis Kurathis • Updated June 2, 2025

Below you will find the traditional list of stats prioritized for you with a further explanation of each stat further down the page.

  1. Hit Rating (9% or 142 Rating)
  2. Agility
  3. Attack Power
  4. Critical Strike Rating

Like any DPS class, our first priority will always be to make sure we reach our Hit Cap as soon as possible. Being “hit capped” just means that our attacks will never miss – be mindful that your attacks may still be dodged or parried, though. In order to reach this cap, you need a total of 142 Hit Rating (Or 9% Hit Chance) Now, there are certain things that can reduce the weight of this down significantly such as Improved Faerie Fire from a Balance Druid, and Heroic Presence from a Draenei Hunter, Warrior, or Paladin. It’s not recommended to rely on either being present in your raids, dungeons or heroics and therefore, you should always aim to achieve and maintain 142 Hit Rating.

While Agility grants 1 Attack Power per point, it also grants us 0.02% Critical Strike Chance, along with 2 Armor and 0.04% Dodge Chance and thus is a higher priority than either Attack Power or Critical Strike Rating.

Similar to Agility, each point of Attack Power is equivalent to one Ranged Attack Power.

Each point of Critical Strike Rating grants you 0.04% Critical Strike Chance – 0.02% higher than what Agility grants you. With every Critical Strike, your damage is increased, so having this on the priority list is important.

Note: New to The Burning Crusade Classic, players will start to see a stat called Armor Penetration in later phases. As this stat becomes more commonly obtainable, it will become a stat to prioritize.
