Skinning Guide for Season of Discovery (SoD) Phase 8

Phase 8 of Season of Discovery retains the 300 skill cap introduced in Phase 3 for professions, allowing players to max out their crafting and gathering skills in case they haven’t already done so. For the Skinning, you’ll be able to skin just about any beast or ferocious dragon, even gather the highly coveted Brilliant Chromatic Scales.

Learning Artisan Skinning

From Phase 3 onward, players were able to level their professions all the way to 300 skill, or Artisan level – the maximum skill for Vanilla WoW. In Phase 5 of Season of Discovery, Artisan Skinning can be learned from any Skinning Trainer located in the major cities, meaning you don’t have to hunt for specific NPCs!

Keep in mind that the level restrictions brought by Season of Discovery still apply in Phase 8. Your character will need to be at least level 41 to be able to learn Artisan Skinning and at least level 26 to learn Expert Skinning.

Skinning Equipment

Several mobs require additional skill past the 300 Skinning skill cap in order for players to be able to acquire their scales, pelts, or hides. This can be achieved through a combination of items and a special enchantment that allows players to reach 315 skill in Skinning.

List of Mobs that require skill over the 300 Skinning cap:

• The Beast – (310 Skill) in Upper Blackrock Spire
• Core Hound – (310 Skill) in Molten Core
• Onyxia – (315 Skill) in Onyxia’s Lair
• Magmadar – (315 Skill) in Molten Core
• Nefarian – (315 Skill) in Blackwing Lair
• Emeriss/Lethon/Taerar/Ysondre – (315 Skill) in The Nightmare Grove

There are two special equipment pieces that give Skinning skill and a single glove enchantment:

• Pip’s Skinner – Skinning (+10)
  • Dropped by: The Beast – Upper Blackrock Spire
• Zulian Slicer – Skinning (+10)
  • Dropped by: High Priest Thekal in Zul’Gurub
• Enchant Gloves – Skinning (+5)
  • Formula: Enchant Gloves – Skinning drops from Witherbark Trolls in Arathi Highlands

Phase 8 Leather to Farm

Here is everything you can skin in Phase 8 of Season of Discovery. With the exception of one new type of Chitin in Phase 6, Skinning is entirely the same as it is in Vanilla WoW.
