Lorewalking Event Coming to The War Within in Patch 11.1.7 Legacy of Arathor
There’s a new event coming in the next content update for World of Warcraft, Patch 11.1.7 Legacy of Arathor, which is due to go live on June 17th. The event will send characters level 10 and up on a set of repeatable Lorewalking quests courtesy of Lorewalker Cho, who can be found in Dornogal, Stormwind, or Orgrimmar.
There are three Lorewalking quests covering significant figures in Azeroth: Xal’atath, the Ethereals, and the Lich King. If you’re not familiar with these characters’ stories, this should be a great opportunity to brush up on your lore ahead of whatever Blizzard has planned for them in the upcoming patches and expansions.

Meet with Lorewalker Cho in Stormwind, Orgrimmar, or Dornogal to experience iconic lore moments in Azeroth in the Legacy of Arathor content update. Players level 10 and above can explore three storylines carefully curated by Lorewalker Cho to learn more about Xal’atath, the Ethereals, and The Lich King. Each storyline consists of previous quests and a few new ones.
New Quest: Lorewalking
Lorewalker Cho in Dornogal
Players who are eligible to begin a Lorewalking journey will receive a new quest— Lorewalking— where you’ll be sent to find Lorewalker Cho. His location will be marked as “Lorewalking” on the map with a small open book icon.
“Are you curious about your world’s history? Would you like to learn more?
Lorewalker Cho has been traveling and gathering stories of important events and figures across Azeroth and beyond. If you pay him a visit in your capital city, he will gladly share a tale of the past with you!
Or perhaps more than one tale. He does very much enjoy conversation!
Tell him Assistant Lali sent you.”
Speaking with Lorewalker Cho will open a new selection screen where you can choose which of the three storylines you’d like to experience.
- Xal’atath: Xal’atath, the Harbinger, was once known as the Blade of the Black Empire. Her history is a well-kept secret. But her words and deeds have affected so many that she is impossible to ignore. Her story must be told.
- Ethereals: Mysterious and elusive, the ethereals that have traveled our world speak little of their history. Yet there is much to be learned from the few things they do choose to share. . .
- The Lich King: Arthas Menethil. It is said that when he was born, the very forests of Lordaeron whispered his name. But did the forests of his youth know what he would eventually grow to become?
Each quest series provides additional rewards beyond gold and experience for completing them including:
- [Toy] Echo of Xal’atath, Blade of the Black Empire: Call upon your memory of Xal’atath. Her voice will occasionally echo with glee when you kill a foe.
- [Toy] K’aresh Memory Crystal: Take on the appearance of a K’areshi.
- [Toy] Royal Visage: Remember the tale of Arthas Menethil. You take on his visage. “Prince… or King?”
Lorewalker Cho will be your guide through the stories he has to share with you and is available to you whenever you would like to learn more about key elements of the story by clicking the Ask a Question button in the Lorewalking UI just below the minimap. You can also exit the story at any time by clicking on the X in the UI.
You can repeat these experiences as many times as you like. Please note, that while Lorewalking, you won’t be able to undertake or progress through any other quests outside of Lorewalking. However, you can pause Lorewalking and return to it at any time to continue your journey through the story. If you start a different Lorewalking story without having finished the first, all progress will be reset.
